To each their own.
If you don't like it.. ignore it.
If you are 40+, surely you are old enough to realise most stores do not give you "rewards" for buying stuff. Lol. How frequently does your grocery store, clothing store give you rewards for buying stuff (beyond sale prices - which Steam already does).
Wanting to be "rewarded" for buying something beyond the "reward of acquiring a product you bought at a price you apparently thought was fair" is the "Childish Mentality". Like kids who get allowance for doing a household chore. As a grown up you know you don't make money for making your bed, vacuuming, dusting. You know?
Anyway.. ignore the point shop if you like.
It says you've been on Steam 13 years.. so... for 12 years of that there was no Point Shop or rewards for buying things and you still thought it was worth it to shop here. So continue on shopping here for the same reward as your first 12 years.. getting to play the games you like at prices you find fair
I'm not sure you actually understand what they are. They are already a reward for spending money as already said and you can't get money out of something that is not money so not sure how or why you think they should be added to our Steam wallets for money.
You add money to your Steam wallet and spend that money on a product, that is how the process works and ends, anything beyond that is a bonus and a thank you for spending money so you can get some fun little nick nacks and if you don't want them then you don't have to use those points or use on the community and give to others, (this wouldn't be a problem if the points were not even here).
OP> You're basically asking for free games. Thats not gonna happen. ENd of STory.
If the things you can spend points on don't appeal to you. Then thats all you m8.
As a paying customer you get exactly what you pay for.... just like you always have.
You are buying the GAMES, the points are a free extra you can ignore if they don't interest you, just like you can ignore trading cards or events or any other Steam feature that doesn't interest you.
Todays thread indeed
Think about it. Alll you're getting is the the same things you had a random chance of getting when you crafted a badge. Buty essentially offering a non random way of getting the stuff Valve gets to keep the badge crafting loot box for those who want it (because those are the only ones that are tradeable) but say that its the users choice since they have a direct and low cost way of acquiring any specific item directly.
Bam.
Beside any developer that is making a nice amount for there cards and stuff is unlikely to get into the system
And how much it cost I don't think matter for if its a lootbox or not system, I mean you can just buy from the market if you wanted to
Its not so hard to think that Valve may have done this to be as much a fun little reward scheme to encourage more spending in addition to a bit of legal future-proofing. Again 4-D Chess,
But thats the catch. You can only buy what other people are selling , and people can only sell what they themselves have. SO if you have a particular emote that no one has happened to come across in their random crafting, then you can't buy it.
COnsider also the points shop may also act as a soft--touch price correction for the market. If someone wants an EMote for use. the points shop effectively places a cap on the price for any of them.
Normal rate for payback or cashback is 1 % or lower. So for each dollar spent you'd get a cent. Or less.
There is no money in these loyalty schemes unless you take every extra points and bonus points promotion you can.
lol?
Discounts from points are valid rewards:
most stores offer them as a way to promote their sales, so people will spend their money with them rather than alternative places to buy the same products. why do you think credit cards offer points to spend in products or trips?
There are also online services that offer special promotions and discounts in different physical and online stores by subscribing to their own service, since their business model is focused in collecting information of the things users try to get with the discounts the offer.
So what? those cents can become a dollar, and dollars which can be used to buy cheap games or complete a purchase. Before steam point happened, everything we got from playing the games like cards, background images, etc, could be sold in the market, and those cents can still be used to buy games.
The parrot is right.
Not really, before points happened he has the exact same features and functionality. Nothing changed. Steam added some more free stuff, and he is whining because he doesn't care about it and want MORE free stuff instead.
He is free to never visit the point store and it will be like it never happened and he's lost nothing.
I mean I don't go to McDonalds and complain about their Buy X coffee's get one free because I dont drink coffee....
you can get the same things with points you could only get by playing, completing badges or buying from the market, but anything you buy with points can not be resold or exchanged in the market.
Your mc-example doesnt work in relation to this.
And after Steam points happened you still have this stuff. So basically you are asking for double dipping?
They might at some point add small games or content to the points store just as likely as there will be a discount voucher during events.
But don't expect the rates to be favourable.
the point is that the valve points seem to replace the possibility of getting money for our accounts from items we got as bonus. It would be far more useful to us to be able to use points t buy games, or be able to trade items we get with points in the store, even if we only get cents. if players can get the same items without the market, and then later can not resell them, it breaks the system.
A lot of good games can sometimes have insane discounts, and you can find old school or outdated games for 1 or 2 dollars. Some games offer extremely cheap dlcs for cosmetic bs, which can be a plus if that came from points, as a small bonus for buying in steam.
None of which matters as the OP already said he doesn't care about any of that. So he is not hurt at all by the point shop. He's just mad other people are getting something he wanted and he can't use them to get something he wants instead.
He even says he's mad that he can't get stuff he wants with it, not that he lost anything.
