Profile Effects + Card Effect
I say we should open a market on Steam for Profile Effects. Allowing further customization of the Steam Profile would be very nice. I've gotten two of the event effects from Christmas and Chinese New Year. I love how they look, personally and would love to begin making my own for such a thing. I have many ideas to make. I think it would be a fun community market where people can make their creativity show.

Sure. That's a nice idea, and profitable for Valve as well.

Still, I don't think it's all that flexible, if we can't create our own, and can only choose from a fixed set of things, which doesn't give us the creative freedom to create our own things. Everybody may end up with the same collection of things someone else made, instead of being able to create something ourselves from scratch, in the same manner we would for example be able to do with profile pictures or artwork, which we can fully personalize to our own tastes ourselves.

As long as its optional to see and is turned off by default, also as long as its not custom stuff that people upload, because we all know whats going to end up in that. Also if its selling "profile styles" there will be the issues of people putting stuff that makes it look like they are doing stuff that should not be on Steam. I don't want to see animated stuff all over peoples profiles. I don't want to see all the other stuff too.

There is rumor that Valve is working on a profile update. When thats going to happen, no one knows because of Valve time and because of whats going on in the world right now.

own stuff, from a user?
and market?

the average numbskull has no sense for copyright, licensing and any dignity to honor the work of others.
just out of pure curiosity, did you ask for permission from the original copyright holders for anything in your workshop stuff?

and that is why everything else we have right now on Steam directly for customization .. is only done by a catalogued and background-checked legal entity and can be held legally responsible and accountable with a finger snap.

and the event profile skins ... oh boi ... i dont wanna look at bling bling the entire year and Steam has certainly lost some identity by doing this since mid december.

i hope with the profile makeover they will get back in some order and structure and some visual sanity.
I don't mind more customization but it has to be optional for those that don't want to see them, as for the mini profile one that does not effect most people as they don't have to hover over it to see it (but should still be optional to see or not) but this type of thing won't be for personal or public use more than likely since it would be heavily abused with pron, children pictures, drugs, ect.

I don't see why not, that's a fair request.

There is always room to improve. I'm sure Steam/Valve would figure something out the benefits them and their users alike.

I was going to avoid replying to you but you just rubbed me the wrong way. Numbskull with no sense of copyright? Really?

I've been a 3D Modeler for about 11 years, I have been a texture artist for about the same time. I've filed copyright, had copyright filed against me and yada yada. Let me tell you something about "copyright" that you are clearly neglecting to see here.

All of my workshop content is Edit's, nothing in there is something I claim as my own. I am using these images under the Fair Use act which allows me to make such edits as long as I do not profit from them or sell them in a form of or for currency.

Now please, shut up and stop slugging peoples thread with your obscene negativity.

Think it could be profitable for Valve, not a bad idea either way.
