Allow Account Name Changes
I think it's crazy that steam is the only platform that doesn't allow account name/gamertag changes. I suggest that steam allow this to stay relevant and competitive with other platforms.

Gamertags can be changed easily, you have changed it before. Changing account names has already been talked about plenty of times before.

This has been posted here many times before. Instead of explaining all the reasons they cannot do this all over again, the forum search would be a better idea, please. You can change your profile name but not your account name, and allowing such a thing for potentially millions of users would just be too overdemanding on a service such as Valve provides.

Those other platforms you mentiond in the OP surely have far less users than those of Steam.
This topic is made all the time, you can easily get the answer for this by searching. Display names can be changed but account/usernames will not be changeable due to it being tied to too many functions in Steam and could mess up more than needed.

And there is no need to change the account name/username since only you and support sees it.

You Can. Are you talking about the login name?

^This.

If you made a dumb login name, that's on you, and should've put more thought into it.

I already know all of this, I'm just making a statement. Yes, it has been mentioned in other forum posts. Obviously they are not listening to those forum posts. If I want, I can just create a new account. I just figured it would be nice to allow people to change it, that is all.

Then do it, don't make dumb names you're going to regret, or can't even remember.

and they have stated that because of the way the database was set up, name changes are going to be a problem. would you like to change names and then not have access to any of your games or inventory? They are listening to the community, the problem is some of the community are not listening to steam.

Also, we see people forget which account they are trying to log into and often post about not being able to remeber the login information now, often due to using autologin for so long (bad habbit in my opinion) , and you want to give them the ability to change that name ? Support would be even more swamped with people asking for help to regain access to thier lost accounts, and that is something they don't need to deal with.

It's just a bad idea, all around.
