Add a new privacy method to block private profiles please ?
If we can have an option to make it like
"Make my profile private to anyone else that set their profile as private"
Because if you don't want people to see your profile odds are I dont want you to see mine ...

I really think this would be very helpful in avoiding scammers also.

if I wasnt being clear
I mean that my profile will be private ONLY to people that set their profile to private.

Easy way to bypass that, use a browser and don't log in to view your profile.

If you used the search, you would have found this workaround as one of the many answers as to why it won't work.

you want people to see your profile. that is why you set it that way.
if you would've thought otherwise about this, it would not be public.

scammers scan for possible victims with bots. doesn't matter if their profile is private or public, you would not be able to tell the difference between those bots and a normal user account. so this would change nothing, the scammer would still add you.

it would make private profiles not be able to even comment on my profile or view my stuff and thats a win for me

Not at all.

You should really use that search function. There are threads on that as well.

no it wouldn't. then they would just spam you with a public profile. their privacy status does not protect them from getting reported anyway.

yeah but that would create another step for them, to login to another profile or change their privacy to be able to comment.

I was gonna say " Make autoblock all private profile friend invites a thing " but there's already a plugin iv been using and it blocked 458 private profile friend invites so far for me ...lol

Because it is something that has been discussed to death. It would answer all your questions if you did.

preventing a private profile from commenting in a thread made by a public profile would also prevent a public profile from commenting in a thread made by a private profile. Then you have to figure out how to handle Friends Only profile settings.

Why can that person comment in the thread but I cant? we both have public profiles.......
because you are not his friend, so you cant post....

It would also divide the community. Does it matter that a profile is private to you if the information they provide is accurate?

It seems an extremist idea but the OP is perfectly right: often the one that are pretty narrowminded abusers (I found many) have their profile closed and just spam into your reviews, spam into your topics, come stalking (and trolling and ruining steam constructiveness) all the time you post something.
We need a more punishing system and professional educated moderators or just outsource the whole thing to every single user: allow us to be invisible to people that come there and start to insult us.

How to balance this?
Allow "blocking" \ invisibility against someone else just at a limited number.
We can block 1 person every month, and 5 every year. Not more.
Like this the system would be much cleaner and constructive, less reports and also more ability for moderators to control the still abusing people that are reported.

I report on Nazi propaganda, I report on spamming for 3 weeks and 6 months long too spamming and insulting on my reviews, or posts, but nothing happen.
Steam just dumps me this by telling me "just delete their posts" yes: ok, like this I am prisoner of some criminal behaviour that someone else has, we are giving a stage and legitimizing abusers like this.

Or introduce an algorithm: if someone posts ALWAYS the same exact phrases or uses single posts like "the users is a stupid" or other insults the posting of the comment gets blocked by the system.

Also introduce this option in alternative: if a user deletes a post from a user, that user will have a "counter" invisibile that will not allow to post for 1 day again, or some hours, if the post is redeleted the user will not be able to post for 1 week ...

Like this, especially in the second algorythm suggestion, we would keep Steam very open and free but still limit the abusive behaviours.

Of course some anti criticism might abuse this, but "the mother of stupids is always pregnant", we "can't do nothing on that".

We have this system. It is called the report function. It exists on the posts and profiles of ALL users.

Use it.

If you are not willing to discuss the issue, but instead insult others for their privacy choices, then I'll just lock this up.
