Increase steam review character limit from 8000 to 15000.
As a long time, and active Steam reviewer, I have to say 8000 characters (digits) is mostly never enough to make a truly exhaustive review.

I always find myself cutting something because it simply would not fit otherwise.

I think this limit shouldnt exist to begin with: it's just text - Valve has millions of Terabytes of storage, i do not understand why they have to make economy about a few more Kilobytes of text archived in their servers.

Please allow actual reviewers, as myself, to write as much as they feel the need to for reviews. 15.000 would be likely enough.

The entire community would benefit from this, because it would lead to better reviews.

You're right it's not a technical limit. Feel free to google "online stores customer review" and read all the psychology and marketing behind it. The limits and way it's setup will be clear and easy to understand then.

TL;DR: the current setup is the most efficient at pushing/selling games. They don't want people to make a balanced, well informed purchasing decision, they want people to default to "buy it" most of the time.

If you want to write lengthy and exhaustive reviews, get a job doing just that or start your own site.

Ah i see - so it's a matter of marketing in the end. Ah well - I tried!

Longer ≠ "better".

8000 characters for a single review is already too much of a read through. Imo good reviews are to the point and covers the main aspects of the game and 1 or 2 paragraphs about your personal experience during the gameplay. If you need 15k characters to describe the game and your experience then most people will not read it (I won't).
unless you wanna write a shakesperian novel and not a review, i fail to see how the char limit is not enough.

replace some paragraphs in your reviews with lorem ipsums, wait until someone points that out. report back here how long it took. dont be surprised when it takes weeks, most people dont actually read reviews that are more then a few sentences.

Honestly, i would trust a long winded review saying both pros and cons, going into the story a bit, etc. Over something like >yeah its good and stuff

Ya, so use extremes from either end of the spectrum to make your point. If a person cant get to the point in 8,000 characters, they DEFINITELY cant do it in 15,000.

Some people get far too enamored with their words and style than actually communicating relevant details.

I personally would never read an extensive review, and personally, I look down on people that write arm's length reviews. It reflects a certain lack of order in the mind to me, personally; an inability to filter irrelevant details.

Might feel that way, but the conclusion is usually the same.
