Steam in "Turkish Lira"
So, those of us living in Turkey will soon pay in Turkish Lira instead of Dollars as far as I can tell. And our balance will be converted to Turkish Lira.

My question is; what will we pay for a game that used to be 50 dollars, for example? Lets say dollar to Turkish lira ratio is 2:1 and Euro to Turkish lira ratio is 3:1 (just an example, don't forget). Am I going to pay 100 Turkish lira or 150 Turkish lira? Or will we be treated differently, such as Russians?

If we are going to pay in Euro (converted to Turkish Lira) that'll make games very expensive for us compared to Dollars. That's my concern, hence the question

// Turkish

The best way to 'guestimate' is to look at your retail store.

So take a big release like Borderlands the Pre Sequel. How many Lira is that right now if you walk into, whatever the "BestBuy" is in Turkey (since I really have no idea on this).

That should give you a semi-baseline as to where prices are going.

Note that game pricing harmonization between retail and Steam happens when these currency conversions occur. In that whatever some AAA game is priced in retail stores, is likely the price it's going to be on Steam. So if you're looking at some game on Steam today, and if the price in Lira is cheaper in Turkey, you might want to wait.
What I'm afraid of is, Steam taking this "opportunity" to switch our currency from USD to Euro (and showing the price as Turkish Lira). I think that explains my concern better.

But thinking about what you've said, you are right. The "Australian tax" as the internet calls it, is a prime example. Example that not Steam, but actually local retailers kinda set the price. Over here, initially prices are expensive. Eventually they drop to a cheaper price though. I hope it won't affect daily sales and stuff.
every price is entered seperately, there is no "convert automatically to turkish lira", steam gives the dev/pub suggestions but in the end they decide the price. if you were pampered the last years with cheaper USD prices, you should expect a general price raise if you say retail is more expensive. gaming-wise there is not much money to get there, it might end up like australia, were you pay more or you might become something like italy, that is actually an EU price tier 2 country.

Like I said I dont know how your market works pricing wise. But if your retail games are more expensive than the USD conversion, then expect AAA games to jump in price.

However, with previous conversions for 'higher' priced currencies (Japanese Yen/Canadian Dollar/GBP/Euro/Norwegian krone) the conversion has 'generally' been as close to the currency exchange rate as possible. GBP/Euro has to collect VAT which is why prices are not a straight currency conversion metric as well.

If what you say about retail games in Turkey is the standard then

1) Expect AAA games on Steam to cost the same as they do in retail. Which in your case unfortunately likely means a price jump

2) Expect most other games on Steam to be prices 'fairly' close to a USD->Lira conversion

Again this is speculation but should be farily close to what happens.
LoL game prices went to the roof. I could afford Assassin Creed Unity 2 days ago. But after the conversion, now, I can't. My steam balance is not enough anymore. It's like Steam ripped me of 40% of my balance.

That's not a wise strategy in a country where Piracy is common and unpunished. Just saying.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
