What happens if I activate a game I already have on Steam?

Sorry for my bad english.
I have bought the Fallout Anthology.
Now I already have all the Fallouts (Fallout, Fallout 2, Tactics, Fallout 3 GOTY, Fallout NV: GOTY) on my Steam account, so what happens if I try to install again the games? Will I receive a copy of the games or not?

Seeing as you already own all the game, it would say you already own them and not let you add them again.

Packages on Steam will not add extra copies (unless stated on the store's page), but it will allow you to add the content you don't own to your account.

Adding keys will not add extra copies either.

will the duplicated games be added to your steam inventory or will they vanish from existence? also, do you have the choice to use the code or to simply add the games for your inventory?

You will not receive any extra copies unless the store page expicitly says so, but even that only applies to a small number of Valve bundles. When you use the code the game gets added directly to your Steam account.

so for example if the only game I dont have it tactic and I use the code, tactic will be added and the rest will vanish? and if I allready own all the game steam will simply not allow me to use the code?

example:

game
game soundtrack pack (game + dlc soundtrack)
game collectors edition (game + dlc soundtrack + artbook)
dlc soundtrack

if you have the game and the dlc soundtrack, then the collectors edition is still purchaseable and activateable for yourself because of the artbook content that is just available there, the rest of the content will be dismissed. but the game soundtrack pack cannot be activated and only be bought as a gift, since you own already all content.

the problem is, there can be content that is not listed because of intransparent subscription configurations and you will not find any information on steam, nor by the vendor of the key. then the key can get activated and you basically get nothing.

for the fallout anthology pack that you can buy elsewhere:

there are 5 subscriptions included that are not directly sold or displayed on steam. if you didn't buy the NV ultimate edition, then the key of the anthology will activate because of them, rest will be dismissed.

Hey guys, sorry for the "necro" but this is relevant. What happens if I try to activate a game key for a game I already have? It doesn't have any extra DLC or anything that I don't already have. Will the game key stop working, or will it still work for another account that doesn't have this game already?
