Big Picture Mode error about internet connection while online
I am having an issue with Big Picture Mode that says there is no active internet connection, but I am actively connected to the internet. This happened since the last update to Steam Desktop version. I am using Windows 11 Home x64 Bit

Here is what I see when viewing Steam in Big Picture Mode

Internet
Offline Mode
There is no active Internet connection

Enter Offline Mode

Offline mode is not on, it is just the title scraped from a screenshot.

**Things I have tried**

1. Repairing the installation of Steam using the method found here https://www.minitool.com/news/steam-repair.html

Basically going into command prompt, typing the following command
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe” /repair” and then press Enter.

2. Reinstalling Steam
3. Power cycling the modem
4. Running Steam as Admin

None of these work and I am losing my patience. The games work fine.

Any suggestions?

Been like this for me since day 1 of the new version of Big Picture.

I'm on Windows 10

Only thing more annoying than this is the mouse cursor re centering in the middle of the screen if you dare to have the audacity to press the guide button to access the menus despite using a controller.

This is the response I got for this issue after contacting support multiple times:

"Along with reports submitted directly to Support, the Steam team uses a number of community sources to help investigate the frequency and severity of issues like this. These issues are continually being addressed through Steam Updates. Support does not provide any information on upcoming or planned fixes.

Again, I am sorry that we do not have a fix for you at this time."

Edit: There are workarounds as FYI - don't use big picture mode or use ethernet connection.
Not great, but what can you do. Steam clearly doesn't intend to fix it - my theory is that this issue is mostly seen in competitor handhelds like ROG Ally and it's not a priority for steam to fix competition.

We have to keep nudging them. You made good points though.

I have the same issue, seemed to happen when I was streaming a game from my laptop to legion go, it lost connection some how and now it thinks its offline, I'm not sure if anyone else is having trouble joining online games also after this happened? Like it will just search for matches forever in all games.

Install Google play store on it. It resolves the issue. You have to have play store open for the fix to work.
I used this video to do it:

Contact own ISP, we are not going to fix into steam issue here,

test with spare pc or friends laptop,

feel free to do speed test and bad packets test into own ISP, what is going on into steam is out of your hands if this is a ISP issue, into steam.

and thats why you test with spare pc or friends laptop. ( so you double check its same issue. )
if it work then you have own pc issue.

we are not support here in this steam users forum, we are users only here.

you have steam suppport and ISP as support, and technuicaly not 2 person has same ISP and same location into steam. what are the odds that next door neighbour have same issue and same ISP even, its so slim that you need to know network to see the poijnt i said, its seen before even 2 blocks down the road not a problem so things can happend at ISP own network and thats why yuo talk with them first. ( do they have a issue ) we arer not going to fix ISP route or congested nertwork into steam here.) no connection mean you have no route into steam or can connect to them, and thats why itys a good idea to double check with spare pc.

I watched your video and am wondering what the Windows Subsystem for Android has to do with the initially reported issue.

Hello! This is concerning, I’m not adept in PC, only bought a custom gaming PC for Starfield release- now I can’t even play it, seemingly I can’t use Big Picture, I have the same issues (says no internet connection when PC is connecting, controller not responsive however reacting normal in the controller test, ever ending loading or crashing when trying to open a game.

So because I play on a tv with my controller I’m stuck! Has anyone been able to rectify this? I’ve tried to look for support on steam but there’s no chat or email function :(

Just saw this article so the workaround is irrelevant now.

As a 42 years old dad, this bugged me for a while, the kids never noticed, but my OCD never failed to impress me:
I found a simple and reliable solution:
You need to install a virtual ethernet card as in the video below:

How to create virtual network adapter in windows 11 or windows 10 -

Basically:
1.From the Windows 11 search interface, type in Device Manager, and click on the result. Network adapters appears on the list.
2.Click on the Action drop-down menu, and select Add legacy hardware.
3.Click on Next on the Add Hardware Wizard, choose the manual install process radio button and click on Next. Select Network adapters from the list, and click on Next.
4.Select Microsoft on the Manufacturer list and then Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter.
5.Click on Next to confirm the installation and then Finish.

Works flawlessly!

What if you do not have an ethernet port built in to your laptop?
