It won't let me post a new group chat icon

So, I found a nice picture, I wanted to use for my group chat that me and my friends use you play games but for some reason it won't let me. I tried restarting the computer, turning it off and on again, waiting a day, and trying different images but for some reason it won't let me change it. This also goes for other group chats I want to change too. It keeps coming with the message "An Error Has Occurred".

if that is a real group, you have to change the group avatar on the Steam group admin page, not in the chat.
of course you need permissions for the group.

if that is non-Steam group groupchat, you need owner permissions or have the necessary permission assigned.

and for confirmation, the error is "A server error occured" and not what you wrote, correct?

In my case it's group chat, so just a chat window with bunch of ppl in it not an actual group on steam and it's chat room. I am owner of this particular group chat and I can't change group chat's icon anymore. Whatever picture I try I get w indow saying "error" and the line below saying "a server error occured" and below that option to click okay. When i try again and again I don't get the error anymore up untill I try different picture but the old picture stays and nothing changes no matter how many times I try or what image I try.

I've got the same issue. Looks like this whenever I try to update the icon: https://i.imgur.com/5OXnPRs.png

I've tried updating it a couple times a day for the last week, just hoping valve would have fixed the problem, but no luck -- so I figured I'd add two cents to this thread.

I've tried it a few different images/formats/sizes on two different computers, a different network, restarted the steam client, and tried in the app and online chat. Same issue every time.

I'm having the issue in a steam group chat as well (as of September 18th 2021)

I tried to do it from the web interface ( https://steamcommunity.com/chat/ ) and even changing the image to be 512x512 png just in case, but the result is the same. A popup shows saying "A server error occurred".
