NEVER use a VPN while signed into your Steam account. That is just asking for trouble. Serves you right.

using a vpn client can not trigger a vac ban.

also, you dont have a vac ban yet on your profile. so what is the error message?

Using a VPN will not cause a VAC ban, ever.

Using a VPN to purchase/activate game out-side your region can lead to an account lock.

No, you won't get VAC banned for it.

Just know that your account can get terminated should you use it for any reason to disguise the place of your residence.

The use of VPN is not recommended on Steam. It will not cause a VAC ban, but an unauthorised use of a VPN on Steam will permanently suspend your Steam account. It is written in the Steam Subscriber Agreement you have accepted.

He's not kidding you.

Here's the End User License Agreement.

You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.

I personally think it's a gray area, rather than a B&W one, but I wouldn't risk it.

you make a bit too big deal out of this. a little wink, every school uses VPNs if they provide internet for their students, especially in their dormitories. would be much fun for Valve to exclude the more educated audience.

exploiting currencies which you were not supposed to use was always a nogo and people have been suspended before that paragraph was added to the ssa and current version is simply spongy lawyer poop. if you strictly want to forbid any form of IP-proxying in your agreement, a little hint, don't write out any usecases.

Only if you use it to make purchases or acitivate games out side of your region. If one is not doing either of those, then using a VPN is fine.
