An error occured while updating xxx (content file locked)
Hello. I need help with updating Chivarly Medieval Warfare. Whenever I click to update this error occurs after a few seconds :
"An error occured while updating Chivarly: Medieval Warfare (content file locked) \steamapps\common\chivarlymedievalwarfare\Development\Src\AOC\classes/AOCGameSettings.uc" . I tried reinstalling the game, checking integrity of game cache, restarting steam, other threads about disk write errors but never found this one. I had a similiar problem before, with disk write errors, but I fixed those by locating the corrupt file, and setting rights to it. But now, all the files inside
"classes" appear, then disappear and the error pops up.

I had this problem with two other games, Garry's mod and Unturned. After purchasing a game I expect it to work. Not billions of unfixable errors. Nothing helped yet. NOTHING.

EDIT: I also installed ESO Tamriel Unlimited, which had an error with the launcher, I just tried verifying integrity of the game cache, found a lot of files, in fact all of them, so I have to reinstall it now, which I'm not gonna do anyway because last time this happened was with all the games that popped the content file locked error. That means, this is the Fourth game. I'm not purchasing ANY other games from Steam, untill I get a new computer/disc whatever. Why? 2 years (almost 3) ago, I uninstalled Steam, because - errors. So when I tried to install it again, I had an error - steamapi.dll something something.. I tried everything on the internet and nothing worked but one thing, two months ago when I got my steam back. A friend has sent me his whole Steam file, and it worked just perfectly. So, I guess the reason I'm having all of these problems is, that I deleted Steam, and got his not-fresh version. That is why I'm probably going to have to get a new computer/disc, and a fresh version of Steam..

You have a serious problem there. That problem is that you blame everything on Steam and the games themselves, when there is obviously something wrong on your end there causing the issues with Steam and games.

If you cannot keep an open mind to that fact and use troubleshooting methods and maybe the help of the community here to work towards a solution for those problems, you will never have a fully functioning Steam and games.

The fact that your Steam failde and your friend's Steam files seemed to work perfectly should tell you something......that the issue is on your computer that keeps doing damage to your Steam files. Or, possible an infection is causing the damage and soon enough, your friend's files that you took will be damaged/corrupted also.

I highly suggest that you open your mind to possibilities and work with the community here if you need help getting Steam and games functional. Thanks.

The games that I had before on Steam installed without problems. Steam worked without problems. After I reinstalled it, nothing does. And I do have an open mind, I tried every single solution here.

No disrespect, but we see many users come here and post "tried everything", and in almost all cases, they in fact have not tried everything, and often get the help they need from the community, working together to help solve the problem.

Not trying to be rude here at all, only motivate you to maybe look at other options/suggestions.

May I please ask, as your last reply seems to suggest issues with Steam itself over a longer period of time but your opening posts suggests only an issue with Chivalry and the error: content file locked.

So is the issue with Chivalry the only problem you have ? Because if you also have issues with Steam itself launching/running/updating, then that probably would need to be addressed first and foremost. Thanks.

Not the only one, as I mentioned, two or whatever years ago I tried to reinstall Steam because of a game error, but when I tried to install it again I got an Steam_api.dll missing error, but this was fixed when my friend sent me his Steam file. When I got on Steam back then and tried reinstalling my games, almost always a disk write error popped up, but I managed to fix that by locating the corrupted file and adding privileges which I somehow did not have even if I am the administrator and only user on this computer. When I purchased The Forest, the disk write error popped up, so I could fix that. But after purchasing Chivarly, Garry's mod, ESO, and downloading Unturned, I got the content file locked error. But other then these game errors, no.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Garry's mod installed nice first, but I could not do some stuff like open the menu, there were some missing textures aswell so I just reinstalled it, but then the error popped.

What you mentioned about permissions and privileges is why I personally never install Steam under any Windows UAC control, as in the default location of programfiles, for example. It is pointless to install it there, and many don't have issues doing so and disagree with me, but I always install Steam in a folder all by itself, totally outside UAC control.

For example....(C:\Steam and NOT C:\programfiles(x86)\Steam

Now, if you don't mind and want to look at possibilities, post screenshots of all of your installed programs on that computer. You can use imgur.com and upload them for free and post the links here. We need to see all of your installed programs from control panel view, programs and features, please.

Also, I may have missed it somewhere, but what is your full operating system ? (EX. Windows 10 64 bit, Windows 7 32 bit, etc.)

And is your computer OEM or custom built ? Laptop or Desktop ? Is this the same computer that had the .dll error 2 years ago or a different computer ?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Custom built Desktop, the same computer.
Some of the programs are in a different language. So I cannot tell what they are.

uTorrent
Amolto Call Recorder for Skype (Related to Skype)
CCleaner (monitoring mode conflicts as well as some cookie deletions, if applicable in settings)
Akami Netsession Interface (not listed, but I have seen a case of it conflicting with Steam)
LogmeIn Hamachi
Skype
ZDaemon (similar to Daemon Tools)

Wow, I am not surprised that you have issues with Steam and games. Those programs are known to conflict with Steam, either now or in the past.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

I would now request that you run msconfig from Windows Start and submit screenshots of the startup tab as well as the services tab, after clicking "Hide all Microsoft Services" to make the list shorter and easier to work with.
Still, some are in a different language, and I cannot read them.

And I cannot read the startup tab view, as the header was not slid to expand the name of the process fully. What is that "Registry Mo...." process for ? By Oracle ?

That looks suspicious for sure.

The processes that are related to the programs that I listed above are of course part of those programs and a problem.

I suggest you fully uninstall all that was listed, then restart your computer and we continue here if needed.

Služba - Service,
Služba Google Update : Service Google Update. Registry Mo... - I looked what it is, it's just my webcamera settings.

I uninstalled ZDaemon, Akamai Netsession, uTorrent and turned off monitoring mode in CCleaner. And I honestly do not thing that Hamachi, Skype and the call recorder are causing the problems..
Gonna restart now

All one has to do is use the forum search if in doubt. I thought you said you were willing to keep an open mind ?

If you are not willing to fully uninstall all of those programs just for now, temporarily, then please say so in your next reply. Then I can go to helping others here and use my posts not in vain to do so. There is a posting cooldown here for each user, and I prefer to use my posts to full advantage to help someone that is actually going to follow it through to the end.

So if you don't wish to continue here, please let me know. Thanks.
Alright.. uninstalled them, even though I had them before..

After uninstalling any program to troubleshoot problems, you have to restart your computer, please.

This is each and every time you uninstall a program, without limitation. So hopefully, you did that after uninstalling all the ones that were listed above.

I see that said more times that you have any idea about. "I had this program before with no problems." That is irrelevant. Programs change. New conflicts can come up. The only way to be sure is to remove the possibility of the program being an issue by remove the program...then restarting the computer.

So if you will now forgive me, the original issue was with Gary's Mod, is that correct ?

If so, you can now try to verify the game files for that game using this method only.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

You see, there is no point in verifying game files when the problem of making them need to be verified is still present. That is not the proper course of action, as they just get corrupted/missing all over again. Removing the problem is the fist step, THEN verifying the game files.

Please clarify in your next post as to what issues you are having now with Steam and/or games. Thanks.
The original problem was with multiple games.. Since Garry's mod is the smallest one I'm gonna install it so I can verify the files.. That will take a few minutes. I'll post what will happen.
