Strange download speed.
Hi, for some days (after I made a clean install of windows 10) I notice, that when I download a game, it only download's the game with just 1.6 MB/s. I do not use any limiter and I tried other download regions as well. Always 1.6 MB/s on any game. I always thought it is because Steam Server's maybe all busy but... then I took a look. Steam say's it currently downloading with 1.6MB/s but then i noticed that websites take long to load which made me wonder because I can have download speeds up to 14MB/s. Normally I'am downloading when i'm afk, thats because I have noticed it that late... After tracking i see Steam is using my full bandwit 12-13,8MB/s but downloads the game with just 1.6MB/s. I don't get it... can someone explain me that?!

Units are important. It looks like you actually have download speeds of up to 14mbps (megabits per second) while Steam is quoting its download speed in its default units of MB/s (megabytes per second). The math works like this:

1 MB/s = 8mbps
1.6 MB/s = 12.8 mbps

So yeah, Steam is using pretty much all the bandwidth that you have.

op. you don't understand download speed. 1.6 mb/s is normal for 14 mbps. divide mbps by 8.

The helpful users above seem to have answered the topic well. But if you do ever have strange speeds in downloads, the first thing to try is changing regions.

This can be normal, depending on what you are downloading and when, perhaps. You need to try many, and try some very far away from you also.

Change Download Region

The Steam content system is divided into geographical regions. The Steam client automatically detects its current region and uses content servers located in that region for best performance. Sometimes, servers in a specific region may be slow, overloaded or have a hardware failure causing download issues. It is advisable to temporarily switch to a different download region to use another set of content servers.

Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download Region. You may need to test several regions other than your own.

@BaerSLK Best answer so far :D I'll try, thanks.

And yes I'm talking about MByte/Second not bits.
For the rest... I can have 14 MByte/Sec, which is fully used by Steam but Steam show's me that Steam is using only 1,6 MByte/Sec. So wtf is Steam doing with the rest 12,4 MB/s while I'm downloading?

Edit: And yes Steam takes only my wole bandwith when it's downloading a game.

You can limit the bandwidth as you like, if you wish, in your Steam -> settings -> downloads section. There are several customization options there for you to set to downloads, as in time and bandwidth, for example.

EDIT...There are also download and update options in the properties menu for each of your Steam games in your library. Right click a game and go to properties. There, you see the tabs on top.
