Moved Games to New SSD - Steam Can't Find Them
I moved all of my steam games to a new SSD using this walkthrough https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129. I'm on the final step of the whole process (Step 8) and when I got to verify the integrity of my game files, all 4 options under Local Files within Properties are greyed out. What did I do wrong and how do I fix this?

If you can't verify the game files, then apparently the .acf files are missing or in the wrong place.

The .acf files are the key and tell Steam where the games are. They normally are in the steamapps folder, so make sure they are all there.

Well, if you've doen it all correctly, you should see the added folder where your games are in that settings menu, and thereafter it should start seeing them once you verify the game cache of each game.

It can do this weird thing for some cases, where it doesn't bring games up. Restarting Steam usually fixes it though.

Never had this myself as it always sees my games seconds after the adding of the game's folder to Steam settings.

But as The Giving One says, I have to ask what state these Steam games were? I mean, where did you take this drive from? If it was created with another PC or something, then those acf files and so on are going to be wrong, and that's probaby why there's issues.

hey all, wanted to come back and say that I believe this problem is resolved. I moved my games from my old hard drive to a new one by cutting and pasting, so instead of being able to verify the game files, I had to prompt my game to install in the correct folder. Once the game began its install, it would recognize the existing files and repair them.

So far, it appears that all of my games and progress have remained intact. Thank you all for your help! :VBCOOL:

At least it worked out.

The guide seems a bit out dated, imho. You can right click on the game on the left of your library (list view) > Properties... > Local files > Move Install Folder. This moves the game over for you.

Yup, that sounds like the acf file issue.

I was about to suggest that as the next step should it still persist. So nicely done.

Move Steam & the games together. That avoids this and other issues
