You can't.

Just think about the daft question you've just asked a minute.

Why do age gates exist? Why, it's to prevent underage people getting access to stuff deemed questionable.

So if there were some way around it, then that would defeat the purpose wouldn't it?

So in other words, no of course not.

You can't. As it's a legal requirement Valve has no choice but to use the age verification function.
Crazy Tiger Jul 9, 2020 @ 3:33am
You don't. It's there because rating agencies want it. For Valve it's indemnification.

This is what I see when I encounter one of these game.

THIS GAME MAY CONTAIN CONTENT NOT APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES,
OR MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR VIEWING AT WORK.
The developers describe the content like this:
“This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: General Mature Content”

Your local rating agency requires that you enter your birth date to continue *

and in the small print
* Apparently your birth date is required to access certain products by your local rating agency. This data is for verification purposes only and cannot be stored on our servers.
We're sorry :(
Your preferences are configured to warn you about this kind of mature content.

there is a checkbox to dont show this warning again, but that only counts for that specific community hub, not globally.

If I can confirm I am the only one who has access to my account and I've already age verified once, what is the point of age verifying a million times? I'm not getting any younger!

Also, it's not like anyone is checking IDs. There's nothing stopping an underage person from lying about their age. Which is what they all do anyways, and what I used to do. The only actual practical purpose it could serve is to warn a parent who is browsing with a child of the content.

The age gates have no other purpose than to shift the liability from Valve to the user. And without them, special interests groups who forced that issue on Valve would then go back after Valve to ensure the children are being protected. There are already attempts to pass new legislation that would force Valve to take more draconian measures. Just deal with the age gates as they are because the restrictions could be a lot more worse.

Steam does not verify ages. The age gates aren't there for verification either. It's all not there for us, but for indemnification for Valve and the publishers.

It's nothing different from all those warning labels on various products. None of them are there to actually warn us for things, they're there to protect the companies from lawsuits.

The purpose is to prevent you from sueing Valve when your child uses your Steam account when you aren't looking and sees something you don't approve of. It's not supposed to be effective at keeping kids out, it's just for giving Valve a legal defense.

Because of how contra\cts and legislation works.

EVERY time you go onto the page, whether you are confidently the only one using your PC or not, the vendor or provider does not know that.

Ergo, each time you create a session, it has to ask - it's a liability thing.
