Help with port forwarding to play valve games

I know that the ports of valve steam go through 27000-27014 UDP and 27015-27030 TCP if I'm not mistaken

But I have problems trying to create servers which were no problem when I had another model of router. I try to play half life and half life op4 but I can't be seen on servers and I can't invite them even if i try to put in console "sv_lan 0" in the executable of steam, before creating the server and after creating the server. Also tried to see if my port 27015 was open on an online webpage

When I access my router to port forward there are different options. Both port spaces are required and it's kinda confusing

wuddih, do I really need to make a dedicated server tho? It's just a 1v1 after all but if there is no choice well I'll give it a shot

you shouldn't have to manually declare ports to be forwarded to a computer just to play a game. as the game and remote server establish a connection, ports are established as part of the process. the only reason to forward a port is if you plan to operate a server that needs to be contacted at a specific port destination at all times.

Absolute no response, I typed ip and says "localhost" even if sv_lan is set to 0

Maybe port triggering? I'm not even sure, the thing is that when I played half life and stuff before, without doing the port forward the server would not be reacheable by my partner. After I've set the ports and stuff, I could dunno why. Even Warframe recommends port forwarding to play.

listen server still requires correct ports f.e. udp on 27015, which you didn't do.

this is 10+ year old software, it requires you to do stuff.

I guess the question is if the user is just wanting to play or actually host a server. If it's the latter than it makes sense, the former and it's a waste of time and if required points to other problems.

I want to MAKE a server...

I'm trying to make a server but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, too much for a simple old game... I've set my ports to 27015 udp, trying steamcmd and waiting for it to download. FFS if this doesn't work out I'm going to sleep.

Most have NAT today, but that dont mean firewall is open if user has raised the security.

and game server setup require more, but it dont look like that issue.

do not forget update own router sofware and netcard drivers ( maybe even reset and reconfigurations. try default NAT first most have that as default, well depend on router ofc. )

NAT dont need port forwarding from 1024+. ( do not forget own isp firwall if you also have service there on the line, many forget such service over time. )
