Closing chat window != leave chat?

Are people not out of group chat when they close they chat window? Because so far as I can tell Group's chats (not friend group chats) are filling with people simply because steam isn't acknowledging they've left.

Is this old behaviour or new behaviour?

How do I know what groups I am in chat in without visiting them the each group's chats?

And couldn't they get a different name, there's friend group chats and Group's chats, it's hard to talk about these things without causing confusion.

look at your friends window at the bottom.

leaving a group chat is a seperate function. closing the window is not leaving the groupchat. that is intended and industry standard, since every chat tool with persistent group chats does that.

friends group chats and group group chats are the same. friends group chats just do not have a visual representation on the community and they delete themselves when the last person left but they are persistent as long as someone is in there.
