Steam's Exchange rates from US Dollar to Israel New Shekel NIS
Hello, as of today steam is showing its prices in my local currency NIS instead of US dollars as it always did.

The rates are really a steal, if I pay with US dollars when I buy online, the bank charges me 3.58NIS=1US$
But if I compare a game priced on steam in my local currency the exchange rate is 4.00NIS=1US$

which is nothing short of a ripoff.

The ratio 1 US Dollar for 3.58 NIS is the same for over a year and even less most of the time.

Is there a way I can still purchase games on Steam in US$? Or should I buy somewhere else online the steam keys in US Dollars?

Thanks for any help

Valve should do something about it

The developer sets the prices, not Valve. I suggest posting in the game's game hub or contacting the developer.

exchange rates were only relevant for your Steam wallet. the prices for games were not currency converted, they were defined manually by the devs/pubs, hence why you cannot buy some stuff at all, because they did not enter any price yet.

Right now, Fallout 4: Game of the year edition 59.99 US Dollar
On the local page from my browser in Israel 279.99 NIS
The today Exchange rate in the bank is: 3.5764 NIS for 1 US Dollar.

Which is 78.28 US $ for a game that should cost me 59.99 US $, a 30% ripoff.

O.K, I've read your replie guys, it's actually a ripoff all over the board, no specific developer/publisher.

I'll just buy my games online where they are priced in US $ or GBP in the future.

It seems to be specifically some companies. Shadow of War is fairly priced in NIS, just 2 dollars more than the US price.

Yep, in the same boat. Especially annoying is that Steam will just not show games if they are not priced in NIS so I won't even know they exist to find them somewhere else to buy.

Seems like a likely scenario for many indie games, guess I'll have to go somewhere else for my games now.

yes but valve translite the money to ils and a game that soposte to cost 70 ils now cost 74 ils

Guys, vote with your wallets. Its the only language greeey publishers understand.

My bigger concern is about not being able to purchase certain games since the NIS is not a major currency and many smaller developers might just not set a price, not because they don't want to sell it but because it's a minor currency compared to euro/dollar/etc

Valve, you owe us a transparent explanation why you change the pricing policy in Israel. Or better, just undo the NIS pricing you introduced. Until then, I won't spend a single agora for games you serve. I don't see how the pricing here can be higher than in US. It's unfair, but it's your terms. My right is to stop paying. I did small research, seems that publishers are mainly responsible for pricing changes. To hell with it, I am still pissed AF. Won't buy games here.

This is ridiculous! The only reason I was using Steam, was because all the purchases I did were in USD and not morr expensive euros.

However now I'm forced to pay more simply because I live in Israel?! This feels insulting and I don't plan on spending any more of my money on Steam, when there are other alternatives available, for a lesser price.

Complain to the publishers that set the prices for their games higher than before. Don't blame Valve.
