change save location?
Just got a new computer with 2 drives. I was able to setup steam to install to my D drive, but I can find no way to change where it saves games. I don't want them on my C drive and the saves are large and shouldn't be there. Can anyone help? There's no way to contact steam apparently...

You can take the C disk uninstall the game, and then install the game, but the premise is you must create a new file in the other set to install, is to create a new folder, put the game directory in the new folder, you understand?

I really don't understand what you're saying. I did get steam to install games to my D drive, but I don't know how to get steam to put my saved games on my D drive

Do you want to load the game into other drives?

Well, I'm assuming that because I installed steam on my D drive, then it is loading from there. But it's saving games to my documents on my C drive, which I don't want..

Sorry, are you trying to load the game into D or C?

How do I know where it's loading from? All the steam and game files are on the D drive, so I don't understand what you're asking

Are you trying to change the location of the game?

not possible with Steam, Steam does not manage these files, the game does that and that differs from game to game. in steam you just select the install directory.

if steam does something in regards of game saves then it is in correlation with the steam cloud and those files are all in your userdata folder in steams main program directory

the only way to get your mentioned files to some other place is via symlink/junction

for further explanation:
the files created in your documents folder are usually configs/saves/screenshots or other user-related data. they are created/generated while the game is running, they are not installed with the installation.

First read this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7710-tdlc-0426

Go into your options, select the "downloads" bit, and pick what location you want to save your games in. then you select this when you download a game.

Existing downloads can be moved by following these instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

I did follow those instructions when I installed steam. This is a new computer, so I am starting fresh. And one of my games that I play is Banished and when I downloaded and installed it, I did tell steam to install it to my D drive, which it did. But now I'm finding that the saves are going to my documents on the C drive, which I don't want as I have some saves that are really large. So, I don't know why, when I told steam to download the game to D drive, it's putting the saves on my C drive.

So, I looked in Banished and saw no setting to change the path for saves. I have asked for help in the Banished forum, so maybe someone there knows but I need to figure this out as my C drive is for windows and not that large and I have other games I haven't even downloaded yet. I have no idea what "via symlink/junction" means....

First in other settings to create a new folder, it game into the directory, then the C drive to uninstall, and then installed! May see clearly!
