Steam Client Displays Black Screen
I'm hoping someone can help. Just recently, my Steam client stopped displaying the store, community, everything but my game library. I can still start games (at least the couple I tried), but nothing else displays in the Steam client window. I found some older discussions and s few YouTube videos, but nothing has worked. It's weird, because everything was fine about a week ago or so, but last night the client just stopped displaying, it just opens to a black background. I have two different computers with Steam installed and they both started doing the same thing the same night. Is there something up with Steam itself? Any help would be appreciated.

Yet another reason why using steam client as a browser in 2017 is a bad idea. Better to just use your default browser for steam purposes.

Delete Steam's web cache and reinstall Steam. If that doesn't help, disable DirectWrite and restart Steam.

Thanks everybody for replying. I have tried deleting the web cache, opting in and opting out of the Steam Beta and ripping Steam out by the roots with Revo Uninstaller. I just tried disabling DirectWrite and it didn't make a difference, still just getting a black background for the store with the "loading" spinner going on forever. This sucks, it was working just fine up until the end of last week. Hopefully Valve pushes out an update to fix it. I've been reading a number of posts online with this same problem on Windows 10, especially with the anniversary update.

It appears that is exactly what I'm going to have to do. As long as I can access my games I suppose.......

I have the exact same issue, by the way, how do I "disable Direct Write"?

In Steam settings. You also need to restart Steam afterwards.

Just did that, didn't worked. Damn it was fine yesterday...

Figured out how to fix this issue:
1 - Create a steam.exe shortcut
2 - Left click shortcut icon > shortcut tab > add -no-cef-sandbox at the end of the Target (should be a space between the last character and the -no-cef-sandbox)
3 - Hit Apply and OK, profit.

My shortcut looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -no-cef-sandbox

Holy crap! Dude, you're a genius!! How did you figure that out?

Steam isn't in my programs folder, would I just do the exact same thing except with a different U.R.L.?
[EDIT]: The only executable file labeled just as "Steam" is Steam.exe.old, do I use that?

Sounds like you may have had a failed update. I would recommend uninstalling and re-installing Steam. If it still displays a black screen, then edit the desktop shortcut as described above and you should be good.

This helped. I have had the black screen since November so I missed out on all the holiday sales. This has finally resovled my problems. Bless you, man. Bless you.

Thanks bunches! The -no-cef-sandbox parameter fixed my problems. I'll go and read up on what the hell it actually does, but this is definitely the solution. It was a huge pain to google for this, since this page here isn't listed if you are not filtering the search by date. It seems to be a fairly common problem with wine users under linux.

In case you did not know and there could be more info or help on this, there is a Steam for Linux forum here....
