New Steam Download Speed Control - Excellent Feature
It's good to see this feature Valve especially when my Steam downloads would tend to hog my full internet bandwidth.

I found that my NOWTv box (UK) which streams Sky Television would downrate the bitrate/quality without warning as Steam would hog all the bandwidth via my router when downloading.

It's great that you've offered scheduling for those with "Off Peak" ISP allowance, allow game play whilst downloading and of course bandwidth control, so Steam downloads won't neccessarily take priority. Ideal for households with many internet users sharing a modem/router and those like mine that couldn't watch NowTV (or any Stream Service) at it's best quality and download from Steam too, even when the TV Stream takes normally about a quarter of my internet bandwidth.

Note: Bandwidth = my full line speed.

You can already throttle it from your download settings in the steam client.

I hadn't noticed it before in the client until I saw the notes in the latest Steam Update this evening. It's good to see that there are a whole host of options, from Scheduling, bandwidth control and also the ability to download whilst playing a game.

I'm not sure how new all these features are, but it's the first time I've read about them in the Steam update release notes, so even if I've missed some I guess they are still new-ish options that Valve are continually expanding on.

Been around since I at least had limited internet a year ago, before that no idea, but it is very helpful if you have multiple users on one connection.

Had all those features been there, ie Download Scheduling and Downloading whilst playing a game in addition to bandwidth control?

yep those were there since years, they just updated the values you can set for limiting you downloadspeeds.

The limitation was added a few years ago but the schedule and download while playing is a little bit newer, I just looked it up:

Added global setting to allow downloads during gameplay, and change the per-app settings to be global/allow/deny.

I can only see one year back in the update history, but I just googled it, I'm sure you can find the release dates of the other functions as well. It's not really important, though :D:
Before the change you had to minimize the game and start the download manually, that worked pretty good for me ^^

I hadn't noticed those 3 download "control" features before whilst perusing Steam and it was only on the latest Steam Update did I see comments pertaining to those features and wondered if they were very new.
