Why does steam censor hentai games but not 3d porn games?
Can't help but notice that hentai games on steam are censored to the point where you need an 18+ patch, but with 3d porn games not only are they not censored but the sexual content is directly advertised on their store page. Seems like an interesting double standard to me

There are many uncensored Hentai games on Steam.

Valve doesn't censor anything, the developers choose to censor their game(s).

Steam doesn't censor games, the developers do. You'd have to talk to the developers you're referring to and determine why they do the things they do and what communication they've had with Valve, if any. I don't think your assumptions are cutting it.

The difference is usually the 'adult rating'. Some developers choose to keep their games censored (edit: typed 'un' by mistake) so that everyone can potentially see or access it, even if you didn't enable adult contents.

Something I don't enjoy because patching a game to uncensor it can land you in a lot of trouble if you also decide to upload screenshots.

But yah, blame the devs.

Pretty much this.

You can have explicit stuff and all. BBBuut your ratings have to reflecct it. And certain ratings automatically bblock your product from appearing to certain users, in certain areas, heck it can get your game bblocked from visibility and purchase in wholle countries.

So its an eqation.

Is the increase sales from uncensored equal to or greater than the sales that would be lost due to the greatly reduced audience?

Makny devs try to play the middle and release censored but sneak an uncensoring patch up on the interwebs . That way its not official game content, its a user mod.

Hentai games have been thrown off Steam, but not for being hentai but for pedophilia. How sick one has to be to see nothing wrong with sexualizing characters clearly depicted as underage is beyond me.

NEVER ever confuse self-regulation as censorship - that's a common myth, and a big mistake.

The simple fact is that as already stated, the devs or publishers do this themselves. As to why, it's again as stated, usually down to ratings.

Many games go for multi-platform release so they often do this to standardise across platforms and so on.

In short, there's a number of reasons but it ain't usually Valve that has anything to do with it. So yeah, assuming censorship I know is a hot topic, but it's a flawed one.

I'm not sure why Shel is saying that those games appear even without the filter, because they literally cannot show up at all.
Well spotted, I meant to address censored games but typed 'un' by mistake.

Valve is awesome! No censorship and that's why I love em
