whats the point of steam cloud?
I don't see a point why steam cloud exists.

For one, unless you have to set it up manually, not a single game i own has it. It's either a game with it's own dedicated server that you log into or the game has a cloud sliced in two symbol under that column for steam cloud availability. So unless there's a way to manually set up steam cloud with games, what's the point if most games don't use it or have it.

Most games use steam cloud to sync your saves, so when you log onto steam from another pc it downloads the saves from your other pc.

Out of the last three games you played on your profile, only one does not have Steam Cloud.

As All4one75 said, Steam cloud is there so you can sync your saves across multiple computers and if you have to wipe your drive then reinstall everything, your saves will be in the Steam Cloud so you won't have to start over.

Your config settings can also be saved by the Steam cloud.

Also, your most played game, TF2, has Steam Cloud support.

Not all games have it, only steamworks titles. Also you might have disabled it for the game. Right click and look in properties.

It makes only sense, if you play your games on different PC, far away from another. So it ist only for a very small part of the customer base useful.

In ALL other cases it is only misused as additional DRM.

Basically the Steam Cloud keeps track of your achievements or other status (basic settings) for multiplayer games (along with separate item server). So if you play on a different computer, or laptop when out of town, or more importantly your hard drive crashes, everything for the most part is still there (except custom cfg files or mods) once your games are downloaded to that computer.

Single player games may keep status of current games locally, not sure if they still use the cloud for achievements.
Save games and config even if you switch PC or reinstall system, so you dont have to worry about copying files from one PC to another.

Even if I reinstall game after not playing it for 10 years, it will save my controls, which is neat.

If you use family sharing, it'll also allow everyone to have their own save file without having to actually do anything yourself.

SteamWorks is much more common than you'd think. Steam Cloud is utilized by virtually every AAA game released and even absolutely niche titles such as JRPGs.

It's mostly ancient titles on Steam that do not use it. It's a mixed bag really, some of these games push your configuration to the cloud in addition to save games. This works alright for stuff like keybindings, but graphics settings and other stuff have no business in the cloud.

Their main function is to invalidate a save game you thought you had save on a local disc. At least that happened to me. One save game was corrupted, because the cloud save tried to restore itself ... and failed hard. I have cloud save deactivated since then all the time. It's just another source for errors, to ♥♥♥♥ up your local saves.

And it makes absolut NO sense, if you are playing only on one PC!
