No way to go online...

I've been searching google for ages searching 'how to put steam into online mode' and things of the sort. some talk about a 'menu' button, but I cannot find it, others speak of going to the 'steam' tab and clicking 'go online'. There is no 'go online' button as far as I can see.

there will be Go Online.. instead if you are actually using Steam in offline mode.

You need the steam client to go "online", and to play your games.

That sounds more like something is blocking steam from connecting to the internet on your computer, check your firewall and your router settings.

Yes, Steam is installed. When I start it, it works but I need to update a game, but when I hit the blue 'Go Online' button, it ignores it.

I have three main games, KSP, BeamNG.drive, and Minecraft. I don't play Minecraft through steam, so it is the only one that works, if that helps.
