I haven’t played anything with a parser in quite a while, as an aside.
Then what?
Its an account name only but its tied to your account in Steam and Steam is tied to your credit card etc.
Change you profile name if it makes you feel better.
At least you can have the " I did something feeling."
What about them?
You can argue that was a bad idea. But hind sight is 20/20. The system is what it is.
The reality is that to undo that, is goign to take a LOT of work. Its not just 'well just change a value in the table'. Its about liteally eveyrrhing else around it. How does your licensing work? What about all the support help workflows? What about achivements? What about billing? All these different system, have their own internal systems queries workflows etc. You have to go through ALL OF IT to ensure that because user A changed their accoutn name, that it doesnt somehow obliterate someone else's achievments. Or send the paypal receipt to some other user by accident.
To change it now is fundamentally a high risk situation. A lot coudl break. It woudl be a very heavy lift to really nail down all the stuff to that needs to be changed. And the up side is... kinda small for what is a pretty risky thing.
I mean yes it 'can' be done, but really in the scheme of 'where should valve put resources' i think there are a LOT of places valve could be doing to make stuff better that involves less work and more benefits to more users.
