No reason to. Do a search.

it's just what you log in with, your display name is easily changeable.

“The current year” isn’t an actual argument, anyway. :e2_sandclock:

it's 2020 and my favorite game is a text-adventure game that looks like it could've been made in the 70s-80s, you know, same type of stuff as Zork, but better.

I'm not necessarily against being able to change login name. I just assume it's a ROI challenge--meaning, little/no return for a large amount of development time.

billion loss to make this happen. ney.

 Wait, so you’re saying that game is your favorite because it’s 2020?

I haven’t played anything with a parser in quite a while, as an aside.

not necessarily. just saying it's 2020 and that's still the best game out, a game in that style. All things considered, it does take a TITAN RTX or GPU with 12GB or more VRAM to run due to it running on OpenAI's GPT-3 AI machine learning algorithms. Not even an RTX 2080 Ti can run it, funnily enough.

Considering all the scamming going on I think this is a horrible idea, at the very least you'll always know (or should know) your account name no matter how much the display name got changed. But if we can change the login name, then scammers can do the same thing.

Then what?

Its no different from your Bank Account and your drivers lisense.
Its an account name only but its tied to your account in Steam and Steam is tied to your credit card etc.
Change you profile name if it makes you feel better.
At least you can have the " I did something feeling."

Did u ever heared about steam id?
Snapjak Jun 11, 2020 @ 7:04pm
A public set of numbers that anyone can find and can't be used as a login or personal identification in any universe.

What about them?

The issue is again more that the back end of steam is fundamentally dependent on your account name being unique.

You can argue that was a bad idea. But hind sight is 20/20. The system is what it is.

The reality is that to undo that, is goign to take a LOT of work. Its not just 'well just change a value in the table'. Its about liteally eveyrrhing else around it. How does your licensing work? What about all the support help workflows? What about achivements? What about billing? All these different system, have their own internal systems queries workflows etc. You have to go through ALL OF IT to ensure that because user A changed their accoutn name, that it doesnt somehow obliterate someone else's achievments. Or send the paypal receipt to some other user by accident.

To change it now is fundamentally a high risk situation. A lot coudl break. It woudl be a very heavy lift to really nail down all the stuff to that needs to be changed. And the up side is... kinda small for what is a pretty risky thing.

I mean yes it 'can' be done, but really in the scheme of 'where should valve put resources' i think there are a LOT of places valve could be doing to make stuff better that involves less work and more benefits to more users.
