Streaming From Main PC to PC Connected to TV and Controllers
I set up an older PC and connected it to my TV. It's running the newest version of Xubuntu and Steam is installed and loads on boot into big picture and logs into the same account as my gaming PC. I can then stream games from my main pc and play them on my TV. I'm finding that none of the games have aim assist even though I'm using a controller and they're known to have aim assist on PC and I'm wondering if it's because an issue with the streaming. If so it's a pretty major bug and a huge downside to streaming games this way. Or maybe I'm just an idiot and don't know what I'm doing. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just to clarify because I'm not sure if I conveyed the problem. It's very hard to aim with a controller on a PC game with no aim assist. I'm hoping to have just a chill gaming experience on my TV similar to a console and streaming this way is amazing and provides that experience other than the lack of aim assist. Lack of aim assist makes most games pretty well unplayable for me.

aim assist is not a feature Steam provides .. or even can provide.

ah ya that's not what I meant. I mean because the game is running on my main PC with no controller attached, the game is sensing only the mouse and keyboard and streaming the game to the other PC which I am using a controller on. The game itself has the aim assist but will only activate if it detects a controller. Because the game is actually running on another PC then being streamed I think there's an error and it's causing the aim assist to not function in any game and it makes the games very difficult to play with a controller. I hope I explained it better this time.

Yes, but the point is it's nothing to do with Steam. It's a feature within a particular game.

And frankly, that's such a niche example, I can't see any dev spending the time enabling such a thing.

SO you're pretty much out of luck there.

No. The issue is with steam remote play. Remote play needs to detect the controller of the machine it's streaming too.

Also, this is not a niche example. You aren't understanding what I'm talking about at all. Many people stream games to their TV to play them with a controller. This is not anything new and not even something new to steam.

Is it?

Then please demonstrate the evidence of how you evaluated this, as I can't see how you could being to do so without some sort of peek at the code.

Plus if you're so sure, I've got to be frank here, what are you even asking here?

the input information is relayed to the host. it is as if the controller is connected to the host. it does not get converted into m+k inputs because of remote play. if that is so, then that is because of your controller configuration.

halo reachs ingame aimbot works over remote play.

Exactly, first thing OP should try is plugging the controller directly into the main PC and see if it behaves differently; he didn't say if he tested that or not.

edit: btw not aimbot, but aim assist. I'm sure that's what you meant though.
