Each point represents Steam download activity from at least one Steam user during a recent 24-hour period.

I guess that person must be a high level:summerghost:

I know It's been 2 years since the last post, but i just stumbled on an account which claims to be from north korea

You can set your country to any of the list. There are also accounts "situated" in Antarctica and whole bunch claiming to be from Niger, because apparently that's edgy or funny.

lmfao
I really thought that some people are actually from north korea and somehow bypassed the north korean Firewall
Interesting
Most North Koreans are playing don't starve :dshound:
This thread exists why? Does it matter to the Steam community what nation people are playing from?

Because at the end of each day - when all the other Groundhog Day threads have been posted in multiples - all that is left to do on Steam forums is trawl back 20 years and reply to necro threads.

Which is why Steam is superior to Epic Games Store - because they don't have forums where you can cut and paste the same topics throughout the day AND reply to threads where most of the original posters are probably now deceased from the passing of time.

My friend's mum told me that Valve are considering adding an autolock timer to threads in the next 30 years or so when they get around to it.

She works there so she must know.

North Korea is probably on a banned list somewhere.
I recall there are a few other countries that might be on that list as well. Sort of thing where service is not offered.

Yeah but claiming to be FROM a country doesn't mean they still live there and doesn't mean they are playing there either.

There probably may be a situation like China, where anyone in the higher echelons of the government get special privileges (or do what they want within reason) and are able to do this.

But I doubt that's going to be the case for a fairly normal generic profile.

People set their location to whatever they think is cool, that person may be from somewhere else. I myself have used about 20or more country locations over the course of 10+years.
There have been times that users have been reported in the Arctic. I am not surprised if North Korea has had a few users.

Am I the only one who when they saw a user reported in the Arctic, I never immediately jumped to "oh they must be on a research station"
but instead "wow, I bet they don't have overheating problems on their PC"?

I'd be more concerned about my PC freezing.
There are plenty of foreign diplomats (and their families) living in DPRK and there are ways to get both Chinese and ROK internet access in DPRK but I assume those would show up as CN/ROK IP's not DPRK ones. It's probably more realistic to assume that some North Korean person is running their own VPN service and people are simply using that to get a North Korean IP for the meme.
