Banned for the Same Number?

Hey guys, i was banned because some body get banned on his account with the same Number how is this Possible? Your account has been expelled because another account has used cheats with your verified phone number (Google Translated, iam from Germany)

If you share phone numbers with someone, all accounts get a ban if someone cheats. That is how the system is set up.

Yup, it's on VAC FAQ. All accounts bound to same phone number get VAC once one of them is busted.

P.S. It also works via Steam family library sharing.

accounts using the same number are treated as one. you get caught cheating on one = all banned.

That is going to be quite annoying in cases when you are assigned a recycled phone-number.

Bans from shared phone number only occur to accounts that are using that number at the moment of the ban.

That does not discount the possibility that you'll receive a recycled phone-number off of someone that did not decouple it from Steam. E.g. if someone died.

With VAC bans having no possibility for repeal, I sincerely hope Valve has a way to handle these cases.

Which is still quite possible. A number usually gets reused around six month after the previous owner resigned it. Giving how many people forget they even own multiple accounts ...

Problem gets worse with throwaway numbers which is sensible to use if you don't trust Valve with your personal information.

Even more possible once you realize that throwaway numbers would be the prime type of number used by cheaters in F2P games. Account banned? Make a new one, VPN from a different IP, get a new burner number for 2FA to quickly trade stuff over to their legit clean Steam account and away we go.

And those are also exactly the people who wouldn't care to decouple the number from the burned Steam account...

This is terrifying. I have a drug addict stranger who uses my phone number whenever he gets caught doing crimes. I've had calls from Police, Hospitals, Pharmacies, and Debt Collectors for the garbage human. What happens if he punches my phone number into STEAM?

I'm not sure if you're serious but absolutely nothing would happen, you have to confirm your phone number, you can't just add any number you want.

Old people. My grandma calls me by pressing a picture of my face on her giant old person phone. Otherwise, I would totally drop the $10 my service provider charges to change numbers.
