Purpose of knick knacks

What are the purposes of them. What are they good for?

If you use them, you get a badge and xp. The more you use, the more xp you get.

They are used to level up the Winter 2018 Knick-Knack Collector badge.

Essentially, when you consume the item, the badge will provide more XP.

I can understand why though, considering that they spent enough time creating images for the other badge.

What. Are you seriously wanting users to waste money on garbage that requires like 70000 euros to get 1 million of them? If you let users blindly spend money on garbage that Valve pushes upon us, especially when I found out how badges look, it's very lazy, ugly addition to your profile that is essentially a money sink. Even other high level users find it crazy, heck, crafting a CHEAP 100 EXP badge is actually cheaper than this crap!

"Go for it" Well, sounds like a plan to gamble your money and eventually life for greedy thing that offers you diminishing returns and nothing other than bragging. A bragging on how you spent a lot of money on useless thing that is WORSE than a frickin card badge, heck even a sale one is way better since there's no diminishing returns(steam level itself is a diminishing return itself), and you get 2 other things to recycle or keep. Wheres those knicks give nothing but a petty EXP gain till level 4, and after it you see less and less exp.
