Why has a games Soundtrack become a thing?

What use is a games soundtrack:riddle:
& why do Dev's think people listen to them:riddle:

They know Soundtracks have no value to the Gamer and I'm tired of Soundtracks being used to increase the price of bundles, If Dev's want to sell them as a standalone DLC fair enough but why do they think it's okay to use a Soundtrack DLC to push a season pass or deluxe bundle's price up by as much as £/$ 8.00 when 99% of us only want the ingame addons & extra's:riddle:
It's greed,
Recently I looked at a new game and was interested in the Deluxe version or season pass but both added the Soundtrack dlc pushing up the cost of both bundles. I don't want to pay extra for the inclusion of a Soundtrack dlc I'll never use, It's dead weight, just another way to increase prices, I'm not saying don't sell them, just offer them separately instead of using them as away to squeeze extra money from us for a bundle or Season pass. :SpRad_ThumbsDown:

DOn't assume other people share your tastes. There are plenty of games with rocking soundtracks.

Most money generated from soundtrack sales actually go to the creator of the music and not the developer/publisher. There are some fantastic soundtracks in games and their producers are entitled to sell their music. If publishers want to further help them by including soundtracks in the bundles, then they are free to do so.

I've actually never seen what you are talking about, Soundtracks as a DLC?
If you didnt know whatever soundtracks are in games we have purchased are available via Steam>VIEW>Music Details and Music Player. Personally I love soemj of the Soundtracks , for example Sub Nautica has a brillaint sound track. Witcher 3 also.

I understand and appreciate the amount of work and costs that goes into making some of these games, the sound tracks require an entire orchestra, the graphic designers many many talented cgi artists. There is a huge amount of people involved.

The soundtracks is not just a computer generated track its actualy fasinating to learn about

"you-problem", simply dont buy it then, problem solved.
As someone that has composed music for games before, let me tell you that most musicians don't get paid a fair amount for their work. For most of us it's a hobby and not a real job. Even with steam DLC, most people don't buy them and they are often underpriced. I personally buy the soundtrack if it's really good (bought one for Flood Of Light, Viktor and Luna Sky)

The soundtrack is so important for video games, it is the first thing you remember about your favorite games. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Sonic, Streets of Rage or Mario? For most of us, probably the soundtrack. Do you know the people that made them? 99% of the time, nobody cares.

Why would you not use soundtrack as part of a deluxe edition? Most of the composers are underappreciated and underpaid, but everyone wants a good soundtrack.

There are two sorts of SOundtracks. The first is the kind that you notice...The second is the kind you miss. Some of the best soundtracks and musical scores in games and movies are those the audience isn't even consciously aware of.But take it out of the scene and something immediately feels wrong.

OP it's fine if you don't like sound tracks that much but some people do. Many do in fact. You can choose not to get the bundle and get the dlc and game individually... if you don't want the soudn track.

@ Start Running, Jamesox4d, Hi, I'd be interested in hearing what soundtracks you think are worth buying to listen too. The Games and each component of a game may be expensive to make but the Game industry as a whole is thriving and big franchise games have shot up in price over the last few years to the point where some cost £/$ 100+ so I disagree

@ Juanitta, Hi, The Witcher 3 is a good example of a non greedy Development team, From what I can see there isn't a soundtrack dlc and the majority of it's minor dlc is free.

Wuudih , Hi, Your don't buy it problem solved comment shows that you didn't take the time to read the op properly, my complaint's about Soundtrack DLC's being used to jack up bundles prices not about having them available to buy.

Some people do in fact like the music in a game enough that they want to listen to it on iTunes or whatever when they're not gaming.

As one that buy's game's soundtrack here on Steam and on Itunes, i would want more dev's to realese their soundtracks. They are for ME a added value and enjoyment in game and outside the game to.

Could suggest soundtracks for Elder scroll serie, Fallout serie, Metro serie, Clannad, Dragon age serie, mass efffect serie, Abzu.

My list would be long and very varied in music type and style.

The Payday 2 is a fantastic example of how the music helps the game.

He's right though.
If you think the price is still low enough with the OST included - buy it. Else buy the stuff individually or don't buy it.

You are not entitled to getting stuff cheaper than it's priced.

I wager most people think about
- a blue hedgehog
- some guys fighting in the streets
- freaking Mario

Awesomenauts has some pretty nice tunes.

And yes the games industry is healthy in that it's still around but if you look at the attrition rate within the industry it's a frickin nightmare. It's like the VFX Industry in FIlm. Many of those Studios close down and the brun out rate of people who work in it is absurd. One story that sums it up is that the Studio that did the FX for Life of Pi, a well received somewhat popular film, a film that actually won an oscar for visual effects wound up closing down less than a year after the film's release.

Just because a guy can crossfit for days does not mean he don't have a tumor growing in his brain.

Most studios don't have a major online digital store to back wrole and overwrite these sorts of things.

One of the things people remember about Streets of Rage and many other Genesis games is actually music. Streets of Rage especially. That Bass thump that heralds the begining of a boss fight is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ iconic. The game lieterally isn't the same without the music and fighting games in general tend to have some sweet stage music.

Actually it was hearing the music playing in the attract mode of Mortal Kombat (the 1st one) that had me look for the game in the arcade and get interested in the game.

The original pit music from MK 1 was...beyond.

Final Fantasy games even have huge orchestra events all over the world. Been that way for ages.
