Steam Rigging Reviews?

Maybe it has to do with discounted prices for the sales, but I feel like almost every single game on the front page of Steam has been getting 80+% positive reviews for the last few weeks (even really crappy ones). It seems like almost a subtle change to their algorithms or they're blocking out negative ratings somehow, and nobody has noticed the net increase in game ratings...

Anyone else been seeing this huge increase in positive reviews even on crappy games? Thanks!

It's partly because one of the qualifiers to get extra points in the contest was to "write a review." So a bunch of people did quick generic thoughtless reviews on the first game they thought of to fulfil the requirement.

Game lowers in price. Moire people buy it. These people leave reviews. It's perfectly normal.

One of the event tasks was to review a game, it might have had some impact.
That being said, the really crappy games aren't on the front page so it's simply a case of the reviews not reflecting your personal tastes.

Those only looking at the numbers probably deserve what they get.

I read the reviews and the play hours. Then look YT for recorded play.

They've been messing with reviews for a while. Reviews for games using keys not counting, reviews during periods of high activity not counting, etc. Then you have this event which had people write reviews, which some people really don't care about what they write on their reviews.

That is not true.

Valve is alerted when a "review bomb" happens (X amount of change in Y amount of time) and looks into it. If they fine the change is due to on-topic reviews, they let it be. If they find it is for off-topic reviews, they block a specific time where reviews posted are not counted.

This can easily be turned off in one's Store preferences as well.
