Can Fake Giveaway Keys really hack?
Dear Steam Team,

recently I heard about steam accounts got hacked by activating faked steam Giveaway Keys.
Right now it was for the friday the 13th Beta.
I wonder how that it can be possible, just by a faked Steam Key.

Is it really possible? How should that work, and how to avoid it?
I mean there are a lot times, you looks for a Beta Key on different twitch.tv channels.
So inever thought something bad could happen to my account with activating a fake key.

No, an account can not be hacked in such a way.

If the people were to give their log-in information on a fake site, in order to obtain a key, then that is called phishing and is a possibility.

its posible lost your account by a key given by a stranger,he gives you a retail key, then go to support with such key claiming the account, maybe you lost your items and can be a hell reclaiming your account with support,so avoid the giveaways by strangers if you have high value items.

No, it doesn't work like that. One needs more then just a key and giveaways shouldn't need to know your log-in or any other personal infromation.

yes it works, once you claim the retail key the other guy can go with support and ask for stolen account then he can show the key as evidence(since is retail he have the physical proff) one friend lost his account in this way.

That doesn't work as one cd-key is not enough to claim an account.

then your friend did not have many games on the account, never purchased anything over normal payment methods and the overtaker did a pretty good job on the photo of the case and the key. because just the key is not enough.
