What's different?
I have the original three games for PSX, and I play them about once a year. However, I'm somewhat interested in getting this one after Christmas, so I would like to know: how is the Re-Ignited Trilogy different from the original three, other than graphics?

Loses some of its sovl-ness from the PSX-era. Toys for Bob did good but failed hard in case of the skyboxes and overall tone of most areas. Granted I'm going off of memory of YOTD and 20-odd year old memories. If it's on sale I would recommend it.

Reignited is the best example in gaming of what a Remaster/Remake SHOULD be. The visual difference is astounding, yet it still maintains the same vibe. If anything the overall tone/mood is improved by the updated graphics. 10/10 if you like these enough to keep going back, you'll enjoy this version. Lock your FPS to 30, game is wonky otherwise.

I saw some good examples talking about how the changed skyboxes and post-processing effects changed the setting of a few areas. Shame it was on /v/, wish I had saved it.

Gameplay-wise, one big change from the original game to these versions is the ability to move the camera with the right stick for all three games much like how many games work nowadays whereas on PS1 camera control was limited to the L2 and R2 buttons for left and right rotation despite the DualShock having a second stick that went unused. This was most likely due to Insomniac wanting those who only had a digital controller to still enjoy the games just fine whereas this is no longer the case in Reignited where dual stick controllers have become the industry standard. :kaze_ruby_gem:

It's not worth playing over the originals. But it can be fun just as an experience.

I love remastered and it better than PSX version! Totally worth it.

I'd say the PS1 ones are still king, should you have the means to play them. The reignited trilogy is still very good and worth a buy but some things were seemingly lost in translation.

It feels like a lot of people are using this discussion to give their opinion about the game. That's not why I started this discussion. All I wanted to know is what the differences were between the original version, and Re-Ignited.

The difference is new graphics and animations, gameplay is the same:

Gameplay-wise, there's no real difference beyond the first game becoming way too easy. They decided to backport the Spyro 2 and 3 life system (ten butterflies = one life), without removing the Spyro 1 life system, so it's much easier to reach the life cap than it is in the old games. And physics are tied to frame rate for some stupid reason, so anything over 30fps can and will break the game.

Appearance-wise, oh you don't want Reignited. Ignoring the idiotic decision @spontan mentioned (seriously, Fortnite will be dead and buried eventually, and when that happens, people aren't going to understand the joke T4B replaced the original skeleton dance with), you've got a long list. Check the Spyro fandom for a full list, but just off the top of my head:
>Skyboxes are different, and not always for the better
>New voice actors, again, not always for the better (stereotypical stoner Hunter instead of bro Hunter)
>Truly unique dragons in the first game (one of the few changes I actually agree with)
>Character redesigns beyond the unique dragons are equally hit-or-miss as skyboxes and new voice actors
>Content removed for "modern audiences". Examples include guns in the first two games (but not the revolvers in Spyro 3) being replaced with paintball guns and slingshots respectively, Bombo the Genie being renamed Bob, and entire jokes being rewritten because they offend modern sensibilities (Moneybags quote about Spyro's love of fawns when you can't afford to unlock Icy Speedway, for one).

If you still want the Reignited Trilogy, I won't stop you. I'm just a self-described ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on Steam, so who cares what I think? But if you want my advice? Head to Mod DB and download ALL the downgrade mods you can find. You'll end up with the Reignited Trilogy, without the majority of what I personally would consider garbage decisions.

That I thought was pretty funny in its own way, though. I just saw this as a reference to
Toys for Bob, the development studio that worked on the trilogy remakes.
