Spyro REALLY wants to play sound from my VR speakers.
I used -nohmd. Still comes out in VR. Set my steam VR setting to use my speakers, every VR game uses my speakers, this still uses VR. I use app volume and device preferences to try force it to use my speakers and it STILL uses my VR speakers. What primordial soup did they dredge the programmers of this game from?

It's even worse if you try to launch it with steamlink. It launches VR mode everytime and when you exit VR mode, the game closes. Same if I run it on my PC. Crash does not work at all on steam link (save devs)

Crash was Vicarious Visions, Spyro was Toys for Bob.

Have you made a game? It works flawlessly for me, so how about you stow the drama a little. Obviously it is a problem for you and that sucks, but that doesn't call for belittling the devs for such a niche problem.
Maybe not but respecting the OS calls for the correct audio device is really basic stuff. If you can't handle that then you really have no right to work in programming. I'm a complete amateur hack myself but even I know how to make a game do that much.

i'm talking about Iron Galaxy. They seem to be the ones who handled the port/remake stuff

Updating to steam beta seemed to fix the Crash issues, but not Spyro still.

True, they never put the port team's name on stuff so you rarely know about them.

OP, I found the fix. Right click on game, properties, launch options. Type in -nohmd

Tried -nohmd as well doesn't seem to work at all, the only fix for this is to disable the VR audio device, which isn't really a fix. I bet they didn't test this on a PC with a vr attached once.

Can't you just unplug the vr device?

I could but then i'd have to reach around and unplug it not easy with my setup.

I just found that if you disable the audio device for the VR headset the game won't always launch and will frezze. Just wow.

Edit 2:
You have to disable the VR mic as well, because the game for some stupid reason is trying to use that too. And if only one of the 2 is disabled the game just crashes.

I'm having the same problem. The -nohmd thing doesn't seem to do anything.

I will try disabling them. If I unplug my Rift, the game won't even start (black screen) 😖.

This works for me, disabling the speakers in the sound control panel, that you can access via "Sound settings" -> (right side) sound control panel.

Makes the game play via main speakers.

Thanks, it worked for me. But still pretty annoying having to do this, though.
