Secondary Hull Colour?

I discovered the hull painting tool which is a fun addition, but when I select a secondary hull colour I don't know to use that. Right click and middle click don't seem to paint the secondary colour. Any ideas?

the second color (right color button) is just if you want to use the randomize button.

You paint with the first color on the left. Choose a color and paint something, then select another color on the same button and so on.
