stupid KI
I wish i had more control, because KI is inefficient and dumb.
eg. I came back from a fight, one member is injured, my medicine man is tired. Injured man jumps into clinic bed with open wound, just being able to close the wound with bandage. Now the medicine man is running around trying to give treatment, but is not finishing his work just 90% and running back to his bed, not sleeping 10 seconds and rushing back and forth between bed and hospital in an endless loop.

eg. the salvage robot constantly runs out of energy just before it arrives the charging station, so somebody has to pick him up and puts him into recharge.

eg. ship is almost full from salvaging 3 members jumb into the ship, one is standing in front of the ship and now the ship flys back without the 4th member. He now sits there doing nothing and running out of oxygen and loses conscious.

Thats just stupid and i would like to play the game and not KI is doing that for me.:steamsad:

Well, it's sounds like you're not playing the other part of the management game, that is, correcting anything problems that might crop up.

You're watching things fail, so why blame the crew.

You don't have more than one Doctor to perform Medical? If not, temporarily remove the doctor from medical and wait for a moment to get some rest, then resume when you think he can do the job.

Build another station to cover gaps in the recharge, or move that station closer. If it runs out of energy just before it reaches the station then BRAVO, it did it's job well, but can you do your job and help?

Really? You watched it fly away without correcting it? You have to figure out the reason, and correct it, but fix the problem and ask questions later.

In conclusion ... You're playing like a WATCH supervisor, instead of a proactive commander.
Get a second shuttle asap and 99% of your transport problems are solved. Unless you try to clear multiple wrecks at once of course.

I don't know why you are defending the AI in this game, it is absolutely braindead sometimes and it gets worse the more crew/ships you get. As far as the control he is talking a bout I 100% agree. I will take control of shuttles and tell them to fly back to pick up someone and the just wont do it sometimes. Its incredibly frustrating. There are several other "crew killing themselves stupidly" bugs I have hit like them building themselves into corners, walking through vacuum without spacesuits, numerous crew glitches that can be INCREDIBLY frustrating to fix. One time I had a few crew left on a ship I was dismantling, I had 4 different shuttles come in and dock, as soon as I would send the drafted members into the shuttle the shuttle would undock and fly away, all four of them it was ridiculous.

Don't even get me started on the robot and fighter AI. THAT is completely braindead. Not being able to select them in any way to just "move here" is so frustrating. You cant make them follow crew, efficiently explore or patrol anything, and really the only thing they are good for is AFK clearing derelicts. Also I would like it if enemy crew would surrender to robots, right now the fight robots to the death. I could have a crew member in there with a roll of bandages and they will surrender but if their ship is only invaded by robots they never give up. It would be nice to be able to set up patrol routs or something if we are unable to control them. At least be able to mark locations and have them go to different places when they are on ships. With robots any changes to their orders and they all just immediately stop what they are doing and fly back to their cradles. The fighters you have a LITTLE more control but it almost seems like a false sense of control. Like you can set a waypoint, and the MIGHT fly there, at some point. And not being able to select targets you want your fighters to kill it equally annoying. Also fighter should be able to shoot the alien cores off the ships and going back to selecting targets you should be able to have fighter patrolling in various areas in the sector and just engage any hostiles who they encounter. I know yes now you can set a waypoints, and MAYBE, at some point they will PROBABLY go to the waypoint.

It's true, the AI isn't very advanced or impressive. However, logistics is not just a function of AI -- the layout of the ship plays a big role, also.

If you have a process chain to make something in which materials go from station A to B to C to D, then the thing will be built more quickly if all four stations are placed close to each other. On the other hand, if stations A and C are on one end of the ship, and B and D are at the opposite end, then the zigzagging movement necessary for every time that thing is made will add huge time requirements.

So the unnecessary transportation kills efficiency really bad.

This applies to everything, including where your crew sleeps, eats, poops, rests, works, etc. It's always important to juggle the priorities of where things are laid out. Sometimes, it makes sense to have a manufacturing / storage location dedicated to a specific thing at one place, and a separate one somewhere else. For example, I find it helps to have one chemical refinery at the food growing area, producing fertilizer, and a separate one elsewhere producing raw chemicals for every other use.

This game reminds me of real-life factory simulation software which I've used at my job as an engineer. So I wouldn't say that it's necessarily "broken" AI -- the game has a lot of hidden considerations which aren't made obvious on the surface.

Another reason the AI may appear to neglect certain jobs is when people start to tweak the "job priority" slider on specific facilities. I've seen people run into trouble by changing these settings to extremes, causing the AI to either always work on one type of job, or practically ignore it.
I dont mind having a bad KI doing inefficient ways to handle stuff as long i can correct it by myself. I just ask for more user control so i can manage what i dont like. Instead i always have to work around priorities and think around how to solve my problem, so i can force AI to do it better.
I just ask for more direct control so i can play the game and not watching AI doing dumb stuff.

Its about me playing the game and not watching an AI doing it for me. And yes, i have restarted the game several times and optimizing everything after i learned how to work around dumb situations.
And ok, if AI is really the way to play the game, then give us more and easier ways to tweak AI behaviour somehow.

I'm not sure how much time you've spent in the game, so please don't take this like I'm talking down to you.

The game allows you to manually "draft" specific crewmates, and give them orders to do all sorts of context-sensitive tasks. For example, if your doctor decides to go sleep instead of treating a bleeding person in the medical bed, you can manually select him and order him to do that task immediately. You can also select the facility (medical bed, in this case) and see who, if anyone, is tasked with doing specific jobs available at that facility at that moment. If a patient is bleeding on the bed but no one is tasked with healing him, you can click the "Assign" button there and choose a character to do the job ahead of everything else.

Anyway, I would also look at playing with the job priority settings in the game. You can tweak the priority of specific facilities relative to others, setting them higher or lower. And you can even modulate each crewman's priority when it comes to every skill. This all has an effect on how your people behave.
yes, i know that. Some tasks you can do. Others not. And tweaking priority indirectly somehow works, too. But not always and its a pain to do it indirectly somehow and then watching that its not working. And some tasks you cannot solve just with tweaking priority or learning.
So why as a player i cannot control directly whatever i want the crewmember to do? I want a higher priority then the AI has, whenever i think i need to.

Here i right now have another issue:
My alliance Member has critical problems. The ship is very cold -80°C. People are dying, not eating, not sleeping. I can go there with my shuttle and when they fall or lay down i can take them into my shuttle, but thats about it. I can trade with them, but they dont let me trade them, what they need so they can rebuild their production or generator or whatever they need.
So they are in Agony, dying slowly one by one. I can just watch stupid AI doing sensless reapeting and useless stuff but not solving any problems. https://ibb.co/mYSbyBx

how the heck did they end up with no generator?... I can't even spot the Rubble of a destroyed one,

you might be able to manually dump resources on them by loading a shuttle with a guess of what they need flying it over to there airlock and dumping it out again manually,

though without even a footprint of a broken generator they probably lack the wits to build one from scratch even with the necessary resources,

Fully agree the AI is as dumb as a bag of Hammers in so many ways,
