i did the minimalist on another easy game run as all those extra pouches in the rpd really help
did both runs while i was searching for 2 elusive files for the lore achievment
The somewhat less cheat-y way is doing the Standard speedrun with Leon or Claire A with the exception of opening all doors with your keys (club/heart key, sewer T-wrench, lab modulator) to get rid of them. Also, on standard/assisted, you get all but one of the pouch slots this way.
As for the steps, do not fret about it: If you get every single item in the game and go back to stash them in the box yields around 13800-15000 steps. The shortest non-glitching speedrun route is under 8000. You have plenty of steps.
I ended the run with 2 key items I couldn't remove, the handle from the sewers and the lab modulator (didn't go back for the final inventory slot in the lab sleeping area). I just made sure I went where I needed to go, and picked up anything I could afford to take as I went. Ended the game with around 1700 steps spare and had even made a silly mistake at the clock tower, and went the long way through the library instead of the door across the balcony area.
If you do die, I would say load instead of press continue, 'cause it might work the same as the game timer and continue from the number you died at.
It was pretty easy, but for the footprint one, I guess you can do it at the same time as rank S or S+.
1. Do it on 1st Run scenario for less steps wasted due to Mr. X.
2. Use anything with infinite ammo you've unlocked.
3. Don't do anything that isn't necessary (don't bother with the armory lockers stuff, and don't bother with any weapon upgrades unless the ones that are in your way).
4. Plan your route and save everytime you come across a typewriter. Play for small bits and if you think you've wasted too many steps in your current section, just load and try again. Also save in different slots.
5. Don't take useless walks, if you have doubts on what to do next, just stand still and think for a moment, because time isn't really the issue.
6. Assisted regens your health from Danger to Caution if you avoid taking damage for a set time, so it's perfectly doable without healing.
Put extra focus on making shotgun shells instead of pistol bullets, get all the extra pockets, and the flamethrower. If you really gotta kill a zombie, headshot it with the shotgun or make it flinch with the pistol by shooting its legs. Don't go for headshots with the pistol. The flinch chance is the same and it's much harder to it.It takes some skill, but it's not that ridiculous. Oh, and use flamethrower in the last phase of the final Birkin fight. Before that use shotgun to get rid of the eyes and then unload your magnum into the chest eyes.
That was a rant, but I hope it helps even a little bit.
The steps achievement...I think I'll manage to get it with my Claire S+ rank attempt (I'm at the sewers right now and I think I'll make it just under 14k steps)
The minimalist...well, that's gonna be a difficult one. I imagine is all about playing on assisted or standard (to get all hip pouches) and just pick important items. In my case, I'm pretty sure I'll only pick the shotgun and maybe the flamethrower (I won't pick up the magnum since it takes too much extra space). I think this should be done in assisted because you won't be able to carry too many healing items (for obvious reasons) and in standard zombies still hit pretty hard, so...that's that (I must say I'm also somewhat worried about sub-weapons ....)
