Subnautica: Below Zero
Land exploration sucks
Anyone else feel this way? It was pretty limited in the original so I didn't mind it, but I'm at a point in the game where it's all I can really do to progress. There's none of the terror and panic you get from exploring underwater, even with enemies chasing you. It's too late but I wish they would have severely limited this portion of the game.

Sure it takes up a lot of room in inventory but it's the only "warmer" that will never run out or decompose.
I was thinking the other day... why can't the fabricator just make a small heated tent or something? Seems like that would be super logical and useful lol

Subnautica's land portions made me appreciate the game greater as a whole.

Below Zero's land portions make me resent the game greater as a whole.

i totally agree with you. hate the snow bike or something. hate the walking around and hate stupid snow. and hate motion sickness that dam bike is giving me.

The Worms are surprisely easy to avoid on foot. I fear the cold more then them.

We see in many Alterra Tech sites small portable heaters, but we can't build one. Maida even has a personal heater attached to the model of her body.

But we can't have one.
It DOES seem a little weird that we can't have heaters, because the cold is supposed to be an element to overcome, I guess... but it's perfectly acceptable to bring the prawn suit or snowfox and just use that every minute or two. Like riding a bike will somehow magically keep you warm while whipping through the snowscape. How? Does it have a force field to keep warm air around you in a bubble? And if so... why can't we have a warm bubble around us while walking?
Heated seats and grips - not so far-fetched, those exist here on Earth!

It's a game, so anything goes. But I don't think a heated seat on an open bike would cut it in real life. :P

Oh.... you have no idea. Ever heart of, or seen a Goldwing motorcycle? :D
Yeah as a motorcyclist *any* source of heat helps a lot (except the exhaust pipes! Learned that the hard way) :steamsad:

Getting too cold can actually be a real safety hazard as you start to shiver.

I don't think a Goldwing is a good example.

A snow scooter/snowmobile on the other hand ...
But I'm not even sure those have heated seats. :P

I'm not saying you can't drive a bike in snow. I just doubt that a heated seat would help much.

Anyway, that's the least of the problems with this game, so I'll leave it at that. :}
But it is an interesting question. i have a base near the bridge, but never try to figure out the temp on land. So, i know the temp in water is around 1°, should be enough to let me freeze to death without protection but eh, i warm up in every puddle i could find.
So, how high, or low is the temp in the glacial? The same? Then it is plausible to not freeze on the snowfox with an "imaginare" heatsource in it.
but besides that, i do not think a windshield would be a bad design choice for the snowfox.
Yeah, it is a game, but still....
You know what would make just 1% more sense than the separate Snowfox / Prawn vehics? Having a Prawn skateboard, basically. Also it would visually make more sense from a pilot-encapsulating standpoint. Windsheer is a major factor in windchill, which can induce hypothermia super easily irl. The linkage mechanics may be transferable from the Seatruck dock, but who knows?

They have heated grips and seats on snowmobiles. Is it better than nothing? Yes. Does it "help a lot" as others suggested? No. My snow gear will make or break the cold before a seat warmer does.

Heated grips and seats on a snowbike ripping through the landscape of a frozen tundra won't do a bit of good. So yes you are correct, it wouldn't cut it. But this is a game where being almost frozen solid is cured by a swim in ice water. So do we really expect accuracy here?
Don't forget that eating peppers magically warms you up!
