Strategies for exploring Glacial Basin
I'm frustrated exploring Glacial Basin because I keep getting lost. I tried the pathfinder tool, but the disks don't last when I reload the game. There's not much material to build beacons and rooms both. Maybe I should only build beacons and shelter in caves?

Are there any landmarks to use for navigation. I notice a frozen river. Anything else?

Is there another way to guide myself around this area without going in circles?

I spent 4 real time hours lost there yesterday. Only died one time when I fell off a cliff.

Today I have spent 2 hours in the spires. Died twice and lost the snowfox. While trekking back to it I killed one of those snow bear things and got teleported over 2200 meters to the East. Swam back to base but both the sea truck and snowfox are still there. Contemplating how to swim back in there.

I use the supply drop for a marker that is close to the dock. You can use the bridge and radio tower as well which can be seen from different vantage points.

The Basin is the one and only reason why I installed the Below Zero Map mod from Nexus.

Once you have it installed do some exploring and you'll have a much better idea of how the Basin is laid out (then uninstall it because real Subnauticans don't use maps!).
Just a quick tip.....build a compartment at the end of the bridge as a mini base. Then when you die you will respawn there saving yourself a long journey back.

I quite enjoy keeping it a mystery, I have made several expeditions there and I still have a lot to explore.

I feel that way about Subnautica's underwater areas - but that Basin is so maze-like and claustrophobic it's hard to maintain any sense of direction or situational awareness.

Now that I've "seen" the entire region by exploring and un-fog-of-warring the map I can at least have some idea of where I am or what to look for to figure out where I am, so I'm not wandering aimlessly 90% of the time (as I was when I first visited).

Why is everyone so obsessed with the Glacial Basin. There is not much to explore ( imo )

I wish they would add to the Alien Base

This happened to me too, except I wasn't teleported, I was launched into the sky and landed far out of the Basin region into empty waters. I just reloaded(lost about 13 minutes of play time).

I carry materials for solar power, hatch, and a room- so I have a "tent" I can take with me and I tend to set up a base camp. I've considered building the base camp way high so it can be seen from pretty much everywhere (also look down and plan out a route) but I've been feeling lazy.

Plenty of heat fruit in the area so water and food are taken care of. Basin is circular so between compass and your seatruck you should have a good idea of where you are...if you aren't in a white out situation.

... well same thing happen to me too but unlike you two i get launch into my dead by those snow stalker. Dev please fix snow fox movement on land it's too buggy, bumpy, shaky, making my brain hurt, for now i rather walking on the land rather than use snowfox but in those ice worm area it's almost imposible without snowfox help

I tried dropping a beacon but when the terrain de-rendered (because I went too far away) it fell underneath the ground into the ocean level. Could still work if you stand above em lol. But I hope they add support for beacons to be placed on land.
