Can they do a sequel without FromSoftware? since they probably have some say in the IP? they can be eh screw you FS we'll make a sequel, and then the sequel is filled with Microtransactions and season passes.
However, if FS 100% owns Sekiro, then nothing to worry about I guess...
The fact that Sekiro is tied to Activision in some way is scary as hell though lol
Otherwise I see no reason why Activision wouldn't be the publisher for JP and Asia as well.
Don't forget, aside from BB and Demon's Souls Fromsoft has published all Dark Souls titles in Japan aswell, it doesn't matter where a game is published nor by who, but rather who owns the trademarks.
In the case of the Soulsborne games, SEN Japan and Bandai Namco proposed the projects to fromsoftware before the games even existed and in order to get financial backing the contract probably stated that all copyright will be transfered to the publisher.
The main difference between SoulsBorne is that Sekiro was already in development before Activision joined the project, Kitao explained in an interview that the game actually started as a new installment to the tenchu franchise which is owned by FromSoft, since they lack the capabilities and infrastructure to distribute their game outside of Asia the project was pitched to multiple western publishers but Activision was the one that seemed the most interested because according to Activision they didnt have a similar title like that in their linup.
The IP and the trademark for sekiro is property of FromSoftware which means a Sekiro Sequel could be published by someone else entirely.
Fromsoft could also sell the trademark in the future
