Button prompts are wrong
I'm trying to play with a Switch Pro Controller. The game *seems* to have button prompts for Switch controllers in the game, but for some reason all the buttons are reversed. If a button prompt says "B for Title Screen" then A is what I have to push to go to the Title Screen. If a button prompt says "Y to do this move" then I need to press X to do that. I can't figure out how to make the game have the button prompts actually correspond with the actual buttons; I've tried adjusting Steam controller settings but nothing is working.

This is probably because Xbox controllers have the button positions swapped compared to nintendo controllers. It should be possible to change the button mappings in the steam controller settings. For game prompts to match your controller you will have to map the Switch controllers A button to the bottom face button, B to the right face button, X to the left face button, and Y to the top face button.

If the game really supports switch controllers (which would be unusual) then you would need to disable the controller in steam controller settings. If you check the box in steam next to your Switch controller then steam tells games that it is an Xbox controller (because that is what most games are compatible with) and the prompts won't match unless you do what I said in the previous paragraph.

TrishaCat, you aren't crazy.

The same thing has started happening to my significant other when she plays. She was using the Switch Pro controller as well and it has always worked perfectly with the proper labels until today. I think it has to do with the latest update of the Steam Client.

See my post here for some more details: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/2996547001723393118/

I've already messed with Steam's controller settings, trying to even disable Switch controllers, and it doesn't fix the button prompts being mismatched. Even tried manually changing the game-specific controller settings but doing that just switches controls and button prompts both, so I wind up back where I started.

This will sound like a crude hack, but you could swap textures for these two buttons within the game data.
You could do that by opening file data\qloc_icons\gamepad.qlaf in a hexadecimal editor, then find character sequences such as k_EControllerActionOrigin_Switch_A and same with _B ending respectively. Change the endings in these sequences from _A to _B and _B to _A.
I hope that helps.

I appreciate it, but it just so happens that this issue is now resolved! It was an issue on Steam's end, and a recent update fixed it.

Yup, fixed here too. Thank goodness it was a short wait for the fix!

I see that people here have this problem resolved but for me it stil happens. the promts are allways rong. I can switch to nintendo promts but the game just changes with it. Changing the in game buttons does this to. I genuinly dont understand how to fix this anyone have any idea?

No, there's no fix for this. The game uses Steam Input. It's defective by design.

You'll get whatever icons Valve has decided for you, and that's the end of discussion :-\
