does anyone know how old the protagonist is? i've been searching for the result and found nothing

Ancient - like in Doom 2016 it is stated that he was kicking hells butt through EONS.

If you judge by the look of his physique/face he could be in its 30s or 40s, but nothing lore related as a concrete age. In top of that HE is not human (just human like) so he could be considered as an immortal type or partially mortal (by that I mean can't die by natural causes), but as you can see can be killed by the demons, even if he has special abilities and a great arsenal at its disposal. The age I guess it's a mystery and lots of things about HIM, so that's another reason why Doom games are so great...

After he was blessed by the Seraphim he became immortal , when the unholy crusades happened he and his knight sentinels were trapped in hell for eternity . All the sentinels died at some point but the doom slayer could not be stopped , he drove the hell armies insane until they prepared a trap and threw a huge building on him thus he was chained inside that Sarcophagus in witch he probably stayed locked in for decades or centuries . In the end hie might as well be 1000 years old , but we know for sure that he is immortal so his age is irrelevant .

He in immortal in the sense that he doesn't age anymore ever since he was given god like power, so potentially eons. Can't even really place it since he's from another universe.

If he's anything like the protagonist of Wolfenstein 3D, we can assume he was a baby when the game launched. Just select the lowest difficulty level.

Why is the betrayer still alive?

He isn't. He is suffering in Hell, in an other realm. It is the Slayer who can enter the realm of the dead (in this case, Hell) and can contact them.

This will likely not be that accurate being that I am only guessing.
In the original doom games, along with the family photo spoiler, I would guess 40, add the time with the argenta and night sentinel, I would guess 30 years, the time ripping and tearing through hell, along with him being captured, a few millennia, then the 3 years in between doom 2016 and doom eternal. He is 2073 years old.

At least. The Slayer's Testaments in Doom 2016 suggest a being aeons old (1 aeon = 1*10^9 years), though even if it's far-fetched, at least more millennia old, but still too young, or too angry to die. :)
