95 degrees celsius CPU
I haven't hit this temperature in any other game, ever, with my CPU. I didn't check what my GPU temp was yet but likely very high as well.
I got an AMD Ryzen 9 3900x which is notorious for running hotter than most other CPU's, but I've never seen it go over about 88 degrees. Know that this is with OBS open and streaming. I didn't test the game yet just by itself. I've streamed RDR2, GTA5 etc and never went over 88 degrees as far as I know. I turned the graphic quality down to simple and resolution down to 1440p and still hitting 95.
Nothing bad happened from what I can see, but it is dangerously close to 100 degrees which I know is a max you don't want to hit.
Why is this a thing? For a game that's pixelated? Sorry if this irritates people, maybe this issue has been addressed ad nauseum already. I'm not familiar with the game engine or anything, I just bought it a few days ago.

I might be wrong but those temps seems high. I don't want to be oversimplifying the issue, but when is the last time you blew the dust out of that computer? I know I have to do it pretty regularly and it has been getting warmer out...

Yeah though it's not a dust issue, this 12 core cpu is a beast. It's designed for higher temps and naturally runs hotter. It was like that right out of the box, and should be like that for everyone unless you have some super high end cpu cooler. I got a basic water cooler which does work, but 95 degrees is ridic.

Maybe force vysnc to limit the fps to your display refresh rate? all tho a very high fps usually spikes the gpu temp, not the cpu...

The cpu idles at 55-70 degrees (fluctuating) which is too high. Something is wrong which I haven't figured out yet. Some people idle much lower than that with the stock cooler.. but I've still never seen it hit 95 until now. This game runs 10-15 degrees hotter at least than almost all my other games.

WAY to high. Get that sorted before doing anything taxing. You're approaching load temps for that CPU while idle, it's definitely not the game. If the cooler is clean check that it is still making proper contact with the CPU and check that your thermal compound isn't cracked / showing signs it needs to be replaced. If the mechanical stuff checks out, make sure you don't have any unknown processes / malware running. Edit: I'd actually start with the software / processes first.

Wow man you may want to invest in liquid cooling also clean out the computer from dust
Dwarf80 May 28, 2021 @ 7:26pm
at least check the specs on the processor and see what the min and max range should be..

It's not the game's fault that the CPU is running hot, it's a cooling/hardware problem. That's why you should always stress-test a new system using something like Prime95, AIDA64 or similar.

It could be anything from poor contact between the CPU and cooler, too much or too little thermal paste, too little case ventilation or something simple like wrong fan temperature curve settings in BIOS.

I run an I5 10600k at 4k with 3070 RTX and my CPU hits 65 max on air cooled Be Quit fan so its not game. And getting well over 60 FPS check for dust Cpu cooler sat tight and maybe look at your thermal paste.

I'm not currently aware of the driver settings of AMD chips, but when we launched Cloudpunk last year, this topic was discussed a lot. Maybe this post can help:

Very unlikely to be related to the game. Your idle temps outside the game being that high are also a signal that the issue is not game-dependent, even if for whatever reason this game might be more taxing to your CPU than other test cases. Software can't force your CPU to do anything it isn't designed to do, and there are stability stress tests (Prime95 etc.) people do for initial build stability checks (often for extremely protracted periods) that torture your CPU more than any game ever will. If you have a stable thermal setup and everything is seated properly, and there are no voltage issues, you shouldn't be seeing this happen regardless of game intensiveness.

Because of the high idle temps, I would look at 1) voltage stability (e.g. are you getting random/fluctuating overvoltages on any rails? Can indicate a flaky PSU, motherboard issues, or direct physical defects in the CPU itself, which do happen.) and 2) proper HSF seating and sufficient thermal medium interface (e.g. is the thermal paste or pad properly applied, is the HSF properly seated, etc.) In the case of ruling out the former, the latter is most probable, in which case if you ensure everything is as it should be, I would consider investing in a better thermal compound and HSF (a good aftermarket cooler and paste) and/or as others said, a liquid cooling solution.

Edit: Wait, you already have a water cooling solution? You definitely should not be seeing idle temps that high.

so what basic water cooler are you using ? i have the same cpu, i'm using a corsair icue h115i rgb pro xt and max temp in game is 63c. it idles at 39c. the cpu is a beast, it needs decent cooling not basic.

CPU should be able to run at anything less than 100C for extended periods of time. that's why 100C is the max temp. I have had a i5-8400 running for years and right of the bat games made it go above 90C. It still runs great and I have never once hit 100C or ran into any heat issues/emergency shut-off stuff.
