Special K has the ability to "place-hold" Xbox controllers, if they come disconnected my software kicks in and delivers neutral (no buttons pressed, no analog stick input, ...) input until your controller reconnects. It's very useful in games that don't do hot-plugging correclty. The game will go on believing the controller is still connected just not sending any input :P

This option is under the Input Management / Gamepad section, I imagine your controller always connects on slot #0, so you'd just need to set a placeholder for the first checkbox on the list. If I had known this was a common problem I would have pre-configured Special K to do this and advertised it as a feature of the mod.
