dub or sub?
i usually play these types of games dubbed unless its something like the yakuza series. I've played 2 hours so far with subbed and its pretty good but i was wondering if the dub is also good for this game, thoughts?

Play the game however you like.

For one person who says the dub is good, there will another who will say it's sh--.
Threads like this will only spark debates.

I play with subs, because for me both languages are not native, and out of 2 non-native languages, I prefer the original one.

the Iron Masks dub actor is emo cringe.

i always play with sub, because English VA just can't compare to Japanese VA when trying to convey emotions.

Like, in EVERY japanese anime or game, the English VA is always inferior to the japanese version for some reason

Sub. From the little ive heard the english dub is good. So I dont think youll get a poor experience using that one. However the Japanese voicetrack is stellar. If for you its a choice at all, you'll really miss out going English instead of Japanese voice for this game.

The dub is perfectly fine in this game.

Both are good. I choose to play dub in first playthrough for better understanding, and then sub in future playthroughs

See I have to disagree there. There's some really bad acting in the Japanese voices (Law being the main one. Dear god is he gratingly overacted) that drag it down for me to about the same level as the English or possibly slightly lower.

Dub and sub are around the same quality to me. Mostly strong performances with a few weaker ones.

English dub in this game is decent/mediocre at best. Biggest problems are Rinwell, Law, Tuohalim, Shionne (pretty much more than half the party) have bad performances and/or unfit voice.

And the battle scenes sounded so cringy with English dub.

Rinwell - sounds too old in English.

Law - I hate him in the Japanese audio already, but they made him sounded even more like a brat in English.

Tuohalim or Dohalim - he lost his noble tone/style that he has in the original. His English voice is just a generic dude.

Shionne - don't really need to perform much emotions so it should be easy to perform? No, the English dub still managed to mess it up.

This is not a bad acting. This is probably because the language is not native to you and you are not used to its peculiarities.
I've been watching anime since the 90s so yes I can tell when it's bad Japanese acting.

Law's acting is overdone. It's cheesy and melodramatic.

That's not bad acting. It's just that Law was written to be that way. He's a bad character but there's nothing wrong with his Japanese voice in term of performance.

If the VA did poor job voicing him, the director or game creators would've told the VA to improve and retake. But since the game creators finalized it like that, we can assume that the voice acting was spotted on and matched up with what they wanted the character to be, a little annoying brat.

English dub on the other hand, got it wrong, because they overdone it, made it even more annoying than the Japanese voice, and it wasn't what the Japanese creators wanted.

It's funny that you seem to think this standard applies exclusively to Japanese dubbing and that things like limited recording time or just plain poor direction don't exist.

Or that you are somehow some authority on "what the Japanese creators wanted." You have no clue what they intended.

I prefer the original VA. I find the English dub somewhat cringe when it comes to emotional scenes. But it's still solid.

It applies to the original language voicing processes. Because the original creators were there to oversea the recordings, or at least they reviewed things before finalizing the products.

And I know what the original creators wanted, because if it was different from what they had in mind, they wouldn't approved it. This is the way the Japanese work, unlike some English dubbing processes that didn't even bother to retake it when the dubbers messed up their lines (Mega Man 8).
