How to build temples
So I just bought this game, and it says I need to build temples to recruit a priest. How do I build structures like these? I figured out how to build troops and stuff but I want to build a temple as well.

Building is one of orders a unit can be given. Temples can be built only by sacred commanders.

If you make a unit your prophet, then they will be able to make temples. Temples are 200-600 gold (usually just 400) depending on your nation.

I know this might sound like a chore. But d/l the Manual from Illwinters site and persure it in your free time. You'll understand why things work a certain way.

This, this is a game build around a manual. The interface isn't very intuitive.

Basically you need to have temple to recruit sacred/holy troops, but you will also need sacred unit to build one.
This also applies to laboratories which can only built by magic casters.
Thanks everyone, is this how other structures are built as well? Are there other structures?

I saw the manual and it looks interesting, but if I order it, it wont arrive in a few days anyways, so I just asked here.
And how do I research stuff? Do I need priests at a temple or something? It says I have 0 rp per turn (I assume that's research points)

You need mages at a laboratory on "Research" orders to gain RP.

You can download a PDF manual from the Illwinter website, you don't have to order a printed copy.

There is 3 structures: forts, temples and labs. Forts can be built by any commander.

In general, you will need fort to get access to recruitting your national troops, though some nations have foreign recruits or other types of recruits that can be recruitted on certain province types (such as mountains or forests) without the need of fort.

Labs and temples are then used to open access to mages and sacred units on said provinces. Sacred mages will need both.

Mages can research when they are set to research order, which can be performed in any lab. Magic rituals and forging magical items also require a lab. In options there is setting that makes every newly recruitted mage automatically research, I suggest you activate it, as it reduces micronamagement a lot. Your mages should be always researching when they are not waging wars or performing rituals or forging magic items. In late game magic wins the wars, but only if you have spells researched.

Yeah I just realized that and have been looking there

I was playing as Pangaea, I saw they had Dryads, is that their mage?

Also, I have a big problem of small enemy forces annihilating much larger forces, I attacked Marignon and their 9 troops killed my 50. Why does this happen? I tried making my archers attack from afar and stuff like that but I'm getting destroyed.

I also dont know how to get gold, I start with a lot it seems but then I spend it all and go broke. How do i get more gold?

If you are using your most basic troops they won't be that good. Vs heavily armored units they simply won't be able to hit. Try getting your minitaurs, or better yet create a new game with a rainbow bless, then use your centaurs to kill all of the AI!
BoboYagga Dec 30, 2018 @ 10:46am
A rainbow bless, btw, is when yiu take a small human pretender, the. Take 3-4 in all of the magic paths. Grab magic weapons, increased atrack skill, increased defense, blood surge, and whatever else sounds fun. Have at least okay scales. 2-3 pts in growth. And you should have a much easier time of it.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm still confused on who casts spells in Pangaea, the Dryads or just the god himself?
Mormacil Dec 30, 2018 @ 10:57am
All factions have spell casters but what a spell caster should casts depends on their specific set of traits and magic.

every nation has mages that are able to cast at least some kind of spells. In the recritment screen, you should right click units to see more detailed information of them, such as magic paths and other possible unit traits. On the army set up screen you can script commanders with magic paths to cast spells.

Also on game creation, you will see the troop layout of your nation. It can also accessed during game with F4. There is a lot of hotkeys and learning them will make playing Dominions much easier. You can see the avaivable hotkeys by hitting ? in keyboad.
