Essential dlcs?

There aren't any official DLCs that affect gameplay.

You can buy additional modules, which are new stories.

NWN is one of the most modded games ever, but none of the gameplay mods are essential.

The big deal with modding is the custom modules, which offer new stories (many considered better than the official ones) and the persistent worlds for multiplayer.

Thanks, but what about in terms of story, any dlc worth getting?

Yes, the guide link has lists of the best fan-made modules, which are all new stories.

The community/curated ones are certainly worthwhile, but don't include some of the very best from the Vault, for example, "Swordflight", which has to be one of the most challenging, or "A Dance With Rogues" which is amongst the best stories produced for any RPG.
