Blackguard build?
Ive decided I want to play a Blackguard, from SoU to HotU, and use as much of it's class flavor as possible. The problem is that most builds are deisgned for high level multiplayer and not the actual campaigns.

I have a few options off of the top of my head.
>Fighter/Blackguard
>Rogue/Blackguard
>Cleric/Blackguard
also
>Monk/Blackguard, but I'd rather not pick monk because I want to use 2 handed swords.

I chose to focus on only 2 classes because the campaigns only go so far, and it would take forever before I get my proper Blackguard stuff.

Which options do you think are the best, given I'm playing the campaigns?

monk seems incompatible, due to arms and armor issues.
BG likes a good cha, so bard is actually an interesting combo -- bard/RDD/BG smasher, 10/10/20 maybe?

cleric bg is very powerful, good spells, good smashing, at least 6th level spells and pick domains that make sense to you..

rogue is a good choice. could even take some assassin levels?

fighter is solid.

Ranger 6 - BlackGuard 7 -R1-BG1-R1-BG1-R1-BG1-R1

Get a couple divine spells, Favored Enemy +3, and duel wielding in light armor (if you want to)

In comparison

Rogue requires 8 levels
Fighter requires 7 levels
Cleric requires 8 levels
Monk requires 8 levels
Barbarian requires 7 levels
Bard Requires 8 levels

Race I would suggest either Human or Half-Elf which will negate the xp penalty.

You can also sub in Assassin levels At any point as well.

Here's another build that is painfully slow in the beginning but you'll reap great benefits later. Bard(5) > RDD(9-10, 9 for +2 intelligence) > BlackGuard . This build helps you minimise the amount of levels needed in the base class(bard). So you reap the most benefits out of the least possible levels. But you'll miss getting whirlwind.

I'm not sure if I want Ranger due to the higher Wis I would have to take.

Right now it's between Rogue and Fighter, or maybe barbarian.

I know you mentioned having only 2 classes but I think you would be limiting your character. A good 2 handed BG would surely want weapon specialisation so that means 4 FTR levels pre epic (and 2 post, for the epic version).

Rogue would be the other class I'd use for many reasons. Taken on lvls 2, 7, 12, 17, 22, etc you can maximise your tumble skill for extra dodge armour class, get your BG hide prerequisite easily & early, and supplement your BG sneak attack with the rogue one (They stack).

I'd start lvl1 with rogue for the skill points bonus, but would happily go DEX 8, WIS 8 and wear heavy armour. Keep rogue levels in groups of 4 pre epic to maximise your BAB but take a 5th post epic for the extra sneak attack damage. By lvl 20 you would have FTR4/ROG4/BG X

There's also a player made module called Sands of Fate which is intended for your HotU character to reach lvl40 which gives you more options. You could consider a charisma led BG/SOR/FTR and use divine might from BG and buffing spells to turn into a surprisingly effective spellsword dealing tons of fire and divine damage from your sword and still have access to spells almost as powerful as a pure sorceress. STR14, DEX8, WIS8, CHA16 would be good starting stats and just keep building the CHA. You'll need to still spell everything until you can find spellsword armour tho.

Have fun :)
