Is Bloodstained still getting Coop and online multiplayer added?
or was that abandoned?

The game came out in 2019, so I don't think so.

They recently confirmed they are going to for some new modes, but not the core game.

I don't get how co-op would be any fun here. it'd be like playing co-op on super mario 1 NES at same time. there's no point to it because everything is scripted and designed around 1 player ...playing. there's already competitive mode *3. So Miriam 1 killed medusa head before Miriam 2 and both fell to their death because of that? Both tried to use a level and now they stuck in infinite open-close animation? one fell down and one is still fughting a demon? what's it gonna be? Split screen? One screen? Unless it's like Metroid+Zelda kinda matching co-op experience then there's little to be done here.

I played contra 2 player mode before.
it can go bad real fast. and annoying too, with checkpoint being so far appart in some case.à

Or what, Player 2 use the summon? That I could see but... for a vania game? Player 2 must be patient and/or the kind that doesn't care much about the gameplay. I've seen plenty of game with player 2 being the "helper minion" and only one stood out : Crashland. you can actually do stuff as player2 in crashland. in other game you could well be afk and it would make no difference. Think about it, think about being player 2 here.

would you truly like having no agency over the game but.. pretending to play? being unable to actually do anything of actual value? Your presence or absence being of absolutely no consequence or importance? Dealing inconsequencial amount of damage until player 1 decide to farm your summon just because? and then since you take valuable space and you are not the medusa head, he just... change summon for something else?

I know I wouldn't like that. even with my best friend, even knowing he wouldnt let me out to dry as they say.

They're doing something unique for co-op, not the main game. Just wait for it. It'll come eventually, then you can call it good or bad.
Prinny Sep 4, 2021 @ 5:32am
allow me to remain skeptical of a single-player game getting co-op. it can't be much different than all the other single player game (mostly platformer) that got co-op smashed in with no regard to the fun or practicality of it.
I mean, yeah... I did play some insanely great co-op game... but they were all designed to be co-op or had co-op element from the get-go.

but... here's an example. I forgot the name of the game but it's kind of a recent one. it's a sort of rogue-lite top-down game, looks a lot like a mixture between Sword of Ditto and Moonlighter. Anyway, in that game you need to defeat the first boss in order to unlock co-op. yeah, the boss is holding some bot companion hostage.
as single player, you call upon him to dig stuff up (money, puzzle element, random energy) and.. that's it. that's all he does.
Guess what the player 2 does?
You got it. he takes control of the bot companion!
.,...except he can't do anything other than wait for player 1 to decide to go somewhere where there's like 5% chance of there being something buried.
that's ALL player 2 does. wait. wait. wait. dig 1 money. wait another hour floating in circle with nothing to do. maybe dig a puzzle element.... there's ONE per map if you're lucky. each map is like 15+ square with sub-dungeon sometime. Sub dungeon don't have anything buried.
Oh yeah i almost forgot... you can act as a super dim flashlight as big as 1% of the screen. SUCH FUN!

Yeah i'm still salty. that game advertise itself as a co-op game but there's no co-op. Look, i'll be frank here. I don't have any expectation from the co-op. If it turns out great.. then that's awesome. I might even be one of the first to enjoy it. But I don't want a competitive point-getting split screen BS or a "you are the summon/bot/companion now, time to be useless" like so many other. I want an active part in the game regardless of being player 1 or 2. I want to be useful.
I don't want Citadal or that other one. I want actual Bloodstained Co-op where both player interact with the world and/or each other. Where both player matter at every moment.
I am willing to bet we're not getting that. IGA or not, the game is either designed for it or it is not. and this one is definetly not designed for multiplayer.

Surprise me.

thanks for the replies.

1.) promising co-op during Kickstarter (looooong before the game was far into the development process ... plenty of time to design it for good co-op from the ground up)
2.) selling the game with the co-op tag on Steam in the beginning
...
3.) not implementing it after all...

That's a ♥♥♥♥-move of epic proportions and unless they deliver on their original promise or refund I'll not be giving them any money in the future.

I'm pretty sure they are actually in the process of/have started the sequel.
I'd assume no.

They said the below earlier:

Regarding recent reports, 505 Games and Artplay are in very early planning stages for a Bloodstained sequel. However, current development resources are focused on completing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’s upcoming content. We have a lot planned for you

My friend's PS4 copy also has the "2 players" tag. Really shameful.

This is why I don't buy games for promised content anymore, I didn't buy this game cause I saw that coop tag but learned it was just a hook to get people in. Anyways, this was a great game but I got it for free on a different platform.

Hopefully you didn't get it illegally. Even if the developers didn't deliver on some of their promises, you did still say it was a great game, which means its worth something at least.

Then you haven't seen many games like these with coop, check out Salt & Sanctuary local coop, it strengthens the enemies hp and attack by about 2x and it's tons of fun to play coop. Games more like castlevania might still be super easy with 2 players but for us who actually likes coop/couch coop it's awesome but you do as you will, the rest of us will play it if there is an local coop in the future.

I'm guessing it would be similar to Castlevania: Harmony of Despair in that there are various stages that are mini-castles to complete. That was pretty fun when it came out (outside of the tedious grinding).

I sometimes wish they would port harmony of despair to pc. I loved that game. I tried playing it again on xbox 360, but nobody plays it online anymore, so it is now more a single game. Anyways, i hope they do something similiar to harmony of despair.
