It has sold decently over the years, but really because of heavy discounts in sales.
It's hard to see how or why the game would be brought back. It's got a really solid style, one of the best comic art realisations in a video game, and I loved hearing Mike Patton flex his voice in games, but despite everything it's not a sensible investment. Most of the people who've begged for The Darkness 3 wouldn't actually be there on day 1 to hand over $70 for it, in truth. The vast majority bought it later for less than 10 in a sale, and they'd wait to do the same this time.
That said, if they'd finally release the original on PC, I'd buy the game day 1. Though that is probably less likely than the idea that this series is going to continue, unfortunately.
