Tips, Tricks, and Boss Strategies!
Hello all! I asked a member of our team (Shoutouts to Ivan, "The Machine") to compile some tips and tricks to learn the ins-and-outs of Zombotron! If you're looking for load-out recommendations, having trouble with a particular boss or even just looking for that extra edge, this is a great place to start.

General tips:

-Explore the game. There are many *Secret areas* in the game. Some of them are very well hidden, but often contain rewards which will improve your survivability in direct or indirect way. Best weapons and Armors can be found in secret areas.

-Check the stats of weapons and armor. Some weapons have powerful bonuses such as recovery on hit, 150% extra damage on last bullet and more. Armor items can have % damage reduction, % armor increase and many other useful abilities.

-Use bombs and grenades to clear some of the toughest enemies, or multiple enemies where circumstances permit it. If you encounter enemy kamikaze, the best approach you can take is to defeat it from a safe distance.

-Use environment as means and ways to beat enemies. You can lure enemies into pits, or set TNT on fire when there is a group of enemies surrounding it. You can destroy main pillars of objects so that the rest of construction (including wooden boxes, barrels) collapses onto enemies. Or, in other words use the environment as an advantage whenever it is possible.

-Always purchase ammunition from vendor machines and items with "blue" or "purple" color shade background. It is a very common way to mark, legendary or epic items in all games. It is a visual clue identity.

-Follow the story. Dialogue lines will reveal and give you insight of incoming danger or give you the clear indication that something "big" is coming.

Stat points, Character builds

*Strength* If you assign stat points into Strength, description for it clearly states that you will improve your damage with brute force and melee weapons, with minimal bonus to ranged weapons (but very valuable, it increases critical damage output). Melee weapons have much higher damage output than the majority of ranged weapons. Investment in strength is for players whose playing style favor close combat over ranged combat, with ability to stockpile huge amounts of ammunition.

*Dexterity* It is a great stat for every build. It increases character's critical damage chance, and chance to evade attacks. Very useful in mid-late game where you have to face against enemies who have deadly ranged attacks. Chance to evade is "auto" chance and it has nothing to do with actual player playing skills, so good for players who are more casual type of gamers.

*Vitality* It is a base (core) stat of each build. Investing heavily on Vitality will help in long term survivability. The main benefit from having high vitality is % damage reduction. Having at least half of available stat points invested into vitality is recommended for all types of players. To really use healing items efficenty you will want to have a higher health pool. Chance to block damage is also useful, but it is "auto" skill, on which the player doesn't have direct control. (edited)

Inventory, Weapons, Weapon types:

*Melee weapons* are not effective against bosses, however, Melee weapons are great for clearing Boss helpers and other enemies. The more advanced use of melee weapons is "saving" ammunition for your guns. Whenever you are low on ammo, you should use a melee weapon to get some and stockpile some extra ammo.

There is definitely a learning curve that each player must take regarding *Inventory management*. You must opt for 2 weapon types, you cannot have 3-4 or even 5 weapon types, because ammo will spread equally for each type, but not all types generate an equal amount per clip. This can lead to a scenario where you will not have enough ammo to beat a boss.

*Pistols and Shotguns*. There are the most effective in early game. The pistol has a great damage output per bullet and shotgun can instantly kill almost any enemy in early game. There are more advanced versions of shotgun in mid game, which can be used to clear waves of enemies with ease. However, ammunition spawn for Pistols and Shotguns has the lowest value per clip. These weapons are recommended for players who will take time exploring and wisely spend ammunition.

*Submachine Guns*. You will rarely run out of ammo for this type of weapons, however, SMGs spread fire in burst mode, are not precise and efficient. More advanced version can be used in mid game as they have the ability to "knock back" enemies, but they should be replaced with more advanced type of weapons as early as possible. To avoid misunderstandings, it is possible to beat the game with SMGs, but it is skill demanding.

*Assault and Battle Rifles*. They are your best friend in the game. High damage output, very precise and the best choice for all player types for any circumstances. The ammunition spawn is such that you will never have the luxury to waste "too many" bullets, but it is definitely more user friendlier than on pistols and shotguns. General recommendations for all.

*Rocket Launchers and Grenades*. They are "tactical" weapon types and their use depends on the situation. Whenever there are multiple enemies gathering, any sort of grenade will be the best choice. If enemies are waiting for you in ambush, throwing a grenade will definitely improve your chances to survive. Rocket Launchers can be used against bosses for "monster" damage, however, it will require a decent amount of skill.

*Machine guns and Energy guns*. The most powerful weapons in the game. Machine gun damage output and magazine size overcome any other weapon. It is the most efficient weapon type in the game. The ammunition spawn per clip is such that you will "never run out" of ammo. You can get a powerful Mini-gun in Colony Base (early-mid game) in the secret area. Energy guns are exclusive for late game and super efficient against final boss and scavengers.

How to beat bosses (with or without ammo)

Giant Zombie
-[without ammo] Giant Zombie will throw parts of its body. You can kill them with bare hands or melee weapon. When you kill them, red orbs will drop from their bodies. Each orb deals 200 damage to the boss, which is way more than you can achieve with any weapon at that point. You don't need to have a ranged weapon to beat this boss.

-[with a ranged weapon / ammo] You can use the same tactic as for beating it without ranged weapon, or you can aim its head. However, if you aim its head you will need more ammo.

*Giant Spider*

-You will have to have a ranged weapon. (or considerable amount of bombs)

-In boss chamber itself, you will find "basically" all the ammo you need to beat it.

-Reach the checkpoint. It is in the left wing of boss chamber.

-Focus fire on the boss, do not retreat. Focus on the events on the screen, and stay in the same room as the boss. This will prevent boss to regenerate too much health and thus nullify your progress.

-The boss has 2 claws. When you destroy its claws, it will take serious damage

-Aim for the head. Each hit will be a guaranteed critical hit.

*Skeletor*

-[without ammo] The boss has 3 types of attack. Its only vulnerable part is head. It has an attack where it fires 3 rockets. To beat it without a weapon you will have to precisely time your movement on the screen and push the boss backwards when it is about to perform 3 rocket attack. If the rocket hits the boss it will take 1/3 of its health.

-[with ranged weapon / ammo]
Just aim for the head. :slightly_smiling_face:

*Stone Golem*

-[without ammo (It can be done, but ranged weapon is required)] At this point in the game, you will definitely have enough ammo, but just in the case you don't have it for any reason, there is plenty of ammo to be found at the bottom of boss chamber, so you only really need is a ranged weapon.

-[with ranged weapon / ammo]
Just aim for the head. :slightly_smiling_face:

*Final boss*

-[without ammo] Although, it is highly unlikely that at this point of the game you will not have ammo, or be low on ammo, you can beat the Final boss without ranged weapon. There are more than 10 gun turrets spread across the level (design side scroll) which fire energy beams. These are extremely efficient against the final boss, and you absolutely do not need a weapon to beat it.

-[with ranged weapon / ammo]
Energy weapons and Rocket launchers are most efficient against the boss. In combination with gun turrets, you will find no problems in beating it.

The "mini gun" is a machine gun called commando rifle, its in the bunker when you return and get the garage key; through a secret wall on the far right of a living area before going down the multiple stair ways.

Best tip:

Use rocket launchers + psychostimulants. Deletes bosses like rubber on pencil writing.

Just hit the head :krskull:

Anyway, about the rocket of Skeletor, was it really necessary to make them also random? Because with their weird AOE where sometimes they hit, sometimes they don't, the boss can trap you on one of the side and kill you without a real counter play. Besides dying I mean. Same logic also applies to yellow sharpshooting mining robots. How many damages do those do? Because I think I get OS 2/3 of the times. Playing on 300 HP just for those wondering.

Stone Golem is atm broken, as in if you just crouch on the first platform after getting it to go under you, you are in one spot that you can't be hit by it's attacks. From that place you can just fill it's head with lead, prefferably from carousel while under effect of psychostims. The bots that spawn to aid the boss are not a plroblem since they are melee only ones, and usually take a single shotgun shell.

For all ones who have trouble with Infator:
Get a rocket launcher
Activate boss sequence
Stand on upper ledge without going down
Wait a little to more small ones spawn, throw grenade or 2, move left and right , until he comes right under you.
Shoot crapton of grenades in his head from above!

Ok, both bosses definitely need something preventing the method right above my post. Not that I don't think it's legit to use it right now, I just think it SHOULDN'T be available in the first place. The Stone Golem and Infator both have issues regarding their initial position and the initial position of the player.

The cutscene for Infator should be played after falling down, not near the checkpoint way above the Boss. It should be like that : Enter the Level -> do what you want until you fall on your left or right -> Land on the platform -> Cutscene plays and Boss fight begins.

In a similar manner, the Stone Golem can sometimes be "stuck" right after the cutscene, never activating his attack making rocks fall. And even with the fact that robots now throw grenades, they are weirdly programmed in this room. Maybe to reduce their powers, they only rarely fire and most of the time, prefer to rush at you and melee attack. So that lead to the Golem killing the robots that are just running in circle while you are completely safe.

For example, Feral Zombie and Giant Spider are both locking you in the Boss room, without allowing you to exploit the level design even more. Not talking about every exploits in each fights, just the ones that truly shouldn't exist. As for the Machine of War, well, I heard a few had it falling to its death by passing througth the elevator, so I don't know if it is fixed or not.

I beat the Giant Spider by jumping on it`s side and hacking it up with an axe :L
